I really enjoy the podcast WowCast by Alachia. It’s unfortunate she doesn’t put out more of them. They are different from the “normal” podcast in that she examines and discusses topic about Wow as a social medium not just Wow news.
In her last show though she had one comment that caught me off guard. She said:
…I find a lot of happiness in Wow that is why I’m still playing the game. Although I do have my doubts about the Wrath of the Lich King. I will not lie. I am kind of one of those people you read about in the forums who’s just like “I don’t know if I can do this again”. Another set of level grinding, the whole who are we going to party with up to level 80, who’s going to be in the 10 mans instance with us, are we going to progress to the 25-mans…
Why is “leveling” considered a grind? Why can’t it be considered fun? Is grinding reputation or honor -more- fun than leveling?

I want people to want to raid with us. I want us to have a pool of raiders that is greater than our need. I want people to be able to “take a night off” and not have it prevent us from raiding.
This means that we’ll end up with a situation where we need 25 people and have 30 people available.
How do you choose who goes? How do you keep it fair so that the 5 people who aren’t chosen stay in the guild and have a fair chance at going “next time”?

West Kingdom went into Zul’Aman and took down a new boss.
We were: Gongniu (Protection Warrior), Heimdal (Protection Paladin), Tatia (ME)(Holy Paladin), Ireena (Holy Priest), Khoss (Resto Shaman), Spiralla (Caster Shaman), Odisia (Mage), Wawepop (Mage), Bowsong (MM Hunter), and Sibiy (BM Hunter).
On Tuesday we went in an clear out the Bear and Eagle boss. Last night we cleared to the DragonHawk Boss and gave him a couple good attempts.
After many different tries we came out with a winning method.
- Kill one of the hatchers. Allow the other hatcher to open up all of the eggs on one side (then kill him off so he doesn’t hatch the other side). DPS will single target the hatched dragon hawks until the Pally tank declares that he has “enough” aggro. Then AOE the rest of the dragon hawks down.
- On the second set of hatchers, do the same thing with the other side of dragon hawks.
- Then kill the boss.
I think in all the fight took us ~6 mins once we engaged the boss.

With the new world order (ie West Kingdom recruiting) we decided we needed more.. administration
We named a Grand Council for helping to make/iron out the rules and Class Leads so that people know who to talk to for help with their toon.
I got invited to the Grand Council and asked to be the Warlock class lead. I’m tickled on both counts.
Then we started recruiting. We’ve gotten 4 new players so far. One of them is even a warlock.
Last week we took him into Kara with us. For that night overall he averaged 425 DPS.
Last night we took him back into Kara. For that he averaged 747 DPS.
That’s almost 100% improvement. I’m tickled pink.
I believe the only thing we changed was to advise him to sacrifice his Succubus, keep fel armor up.. and to use a Shadow Bolt rotation. We helped him to upgrade to Spellfire hood and pants and we also helped him (through the use of be.imba.hu) to re-evalutate his gems and enchants.

ZA last night. Quick downing of bear and eagle (we would have had two chests but we had an unfortunate “taunt” during the bear fight that killed a tank and forced us to reset and try it again).
At the beginning of the run “per usual” I set up a cookie jar. When the summon finished it “beamed in” the gasps on ventrilo were very cool. Even more cool where the gasps and comments when it got emptied and “zap-swirled” out.
Sometimes it’s the little things.
I do still wish that the different sized cookie jars were visually distinguishable. Oh well.

[editing this to make it new for today’s patch, I have this problem almost every time.. and this fixes it.. so setting it as today’s date just in case anyone else is having this problem.]
So, every time there’s a patch I have to log in 10-20 times before my computer “figures it out”. For the first 10-20 times I log in and either I’m naked.. or everyone around me is naked.. and they’re all named “Unknown” and half my icons are “?”s.
So in desperation I logged onto the Tech support part of the World of Warcraft forums and found this gem:

If you have a Checksum Offload Option,Hardware Checksumming etc, disable it. You may lose your Internet for several minutes. If it does not come back try rebooting. Check under speed or media and make sure your Duplex settings are set to Full 100
Retry the game
It worked. I’m thrilled!

So, for a lot of boss fights I, Lilac the affliction warlock, end up standing relatively close to the tanks (to make sure they get the imp buff). As a conscientious warlock I strive to be “just a little hurt” so that my mana pool stays up and the incoming health from my Siphon Life isn’t wasted. This means that I’m usually close enough to the tanks that the frisbee that the priests send at the tanks bounces to me.
UNFORTUNATELY, lifetap doesn’t pass the frisbee on. I feel really bad sucking up all the frisbees and not passing them on.

Mystic Chicanery was mentioned on the “Twisted Nether” podcast. Specifically they discussed “How to annoy all the other healers (without even realizing it)“. I highly recommend you check it out.
For the record: it’s Mystic Chicanery (shĭ-kā’nə-rē, chĭ-) Listen to Chicanery

For the first time -ever- West Kingdom (my guild) is recruiting. After a lot of soul searching, a little bit of grousing and a swift boot to the rear we’ve decided that we want to see end-game 25-person content. To that end we are recruiting and planning trial runs.

I use Grid. I’m what you might call a Grid Zealot. I think it’s the greatest addon EVER for healing (or even for non healers to keep their screens decluttered in 10-25 man raids). Unfortunately not everyone is a convert.
It’s come to my attention that alot of other healers use healbot. That’s fine. It’s their UI they can do whatever they want (heathens).. but this also leads to a little bit of a problem. You see Grid and HealBot don’t really talk to each other. Or rather.. Healbot doesn’t really talk to Grid.
