Half way there…

Posted in Toons at 5:29 pm by Nibuca

Project: Skill-revamp-musical chairs is moving ahead slowly.

I re-did Tikah as a Skinner/Herbalist and sent her all around Teldrassil gathering herb for Obli and skilling up her skinning. That went fairly well but I was annoyed at killing stuff and not getting any experience (and my new pet needs to get experience points to get some training points) so I sailed over to Darkshore to do some more killing, skinning and get some Briarthorn.

Right off the bat I killed and then tried to skin a level 15 bear and the game informed me I wasn’t high enough skill to do that (needed to be 50 skill). Bummer. I would have rather’d get ruined hides (and a skill point) from “too-high-for-you” critters than to just have it flat out tell me I couldn’t even try. It took another 10 minutes locate skinnable critters of level less than 15 and then to skillup to 50 so that I could get level 15 skins. I wonder where the barrier is at now.

Obliette is becoming a decent Herbalist/Alchemist. She’d be better if I’d noticed that you have to be greater than level 10 to skill past 75. Doh! *sigh* So right now she’s stuck at 75 skill points until I can raise her level to at least 10.

Lack of bags sucks. “Your inventory is full” is a hateful statement. Quests with 3-4 stacks used for the quest items SUCK!

I really want to skill Monneh’s tailoring up to get some bags. I’m fairly certain I don’t have enough cloth to do it.. nor is she probably high enough level. *sigh* Sometimes it just sucks having a family of lowbies.

Easier the second time

Posted in Obliette at 11:14 am by Nibuca

My new druid, Obliette, is my second Night Elf. I was worried that I’d be bored working all the same quests again. Instead I’m finding that I have an annoyingly short memory. I’ve forgotten a lot of the details of the quests.. but luckily I keep having the vague feeling I’ve done this before :P so I am not totally lost as to what comes next. It’s going fairly fast.

I dinged 7 last night.. Hmmm now that I think about it I think I forgot to train after level 2. I’ll have to be sure to do that tonight. I’m enjoying the druid class. Tanking/Healing/spellcasting all at the same time is the bomb! I’m also finally getting into the groove of rapid-casting spells. It will be really good to get some of those mana and health potions. I find that I’m burning through my mana fairly quickly.

Herbalism/Alchemy is going well. I sent all my plants from Tikah to Obliette. Then Obli churned out a bunch of minor healing potions. The biggest impediment to skilling up is the lack of Silverleaf and Briarthorn.

Tonight I’ll re-do Tikah as a Skinner/Herbalist. Then I’ll do a herb/skin run through Baby-elf-land. This should net me enough silverleaf for Obliette to skill up to about 85. It should also start to skill Tikah up as a Skinner.

I’ve heard that there’s a lot of Briarthorn in Loch Modan. I’ll re-skill Tikataka as a Skinner/Herbalist and run her over there for a herb/skin run. Hopefully I’ll be able to get enough Briarthorn to skill Obli up to 125 in Alchemy.

The skins… I need lots to skill Tikah as a Leatherworker. Looks like I’ll need 207 Light Leather, 130 Coarse Thread, 100 Medium Leather, 20 Fine Thread, and 10 Grey Dye to hit skill 125. I think that’s 2 nights of farming.. assuming I don’t get impatient and just buy it from AH. Once I have all of that I’ll re-do Tikah as a Skinner/Leatherworker. Then everyone will have the jobs they’re supposed to have :)
All-in-all it’s going well.

If only there were a mod…

Posted in Addons at 4:19 pm by Nibuca

… to color plants as green/blue dots on the mini-map. So annoying to keep mistaking them for quest turn ins.
… to sort auction house to find the best weapon/armor usable by me at the best price.
… to show an action bar in a location I specify that is only visable if I’m in combat.
… to show my questlog and the map on the screen at the same time.. so annoying to have to keep flipping between them.

The problem with a flower-picking hunter

Posted in Toons at 11:32 am by Nibuca

Tikah, my hunter, is currently my Herbalist/Alchemist. It made sense to me at the time that I started it.. but in play I’ve found this combination has issues.

A herbalist gathers flowers. The flowers live in bag slots. Bag slots that could be used for other inventory. This limits the player’s inventory. If you get a herbalist bag then it takes up a whole bag slot.

A hunter shoots arrows. Arrows live in bag slots. You get a 10% bonus if the arrows live in a quiver. The quiver takes up a bag slot further limiting the amount of inventory available to the hunter for non-arrow inventory.

A hunter can track critters (humans, undead, beasts, etc). While a hunter is tracking critters she can’t track flowers (or ore deposits). The one-thing-at-a-time thing is really annoying and limits the hunter’s effectiveness either as a hunter or as an herbalist.

Therefore I’ve decided that my hunter needs to -not- be a herbalist/alchemist. That said, my other characters are getting a ton of usefulness from the potions so I’m not willing to -not- have a herbalist/alchemist character.

Addon: MetaHUD

Very cool add on. Puts your information in the middle of the screen where you need it.

Addon: PriceEach

I’m just grooving on the addons.

Saw this:
Compatible with Burning Crusade PriceEach 2.0
So lets say your searching the AH for items and find 8 stacks in varying quantities per stack from 1 to 20. How would you quickly figure out the stack that is the best deal? Not only could they all have different prices because of the different stack size, but sellers post at different prices as well. You could just pick the lowest priced stack, but it may end up having the highest price per item! Relax, with PriceEach, all your troubles will go away and you can see at a glance the best per item deal!

PriceEach simply shows you the price per item in each stack. (Buyout price divided by quantity in the stack.) This price is displayed next to the name of the item in the AH search list.

This is -so- cool. It makes comparison shopping so much easier.

Alarm Clock

Posted in Addons at 3:53 am by Nibuca

I’m getting tired of that “Oh, crap! It’s 1:30 AM!” moments. Decided I needed an alarm clock. Found one that’s integrated into the Titan bar.

TitanAlarmClockWrangler

Settings:
View of settings

When it goes off it puts red text at the top of the screen.. and makes a sound like a kettle drum. The alarm snoozes for 5 minutes if you hit the blue dot next to the clock. The red dot cancels the alarm. I’m well pleased.

Addon: EquipCompare + CharactersViewer

Posted in Addons at 3:41 am by Nibuca

EquipCompare is pretty darn cool on its own.. but combined with CharactersViewer it’s da-bomb. This is an easy way to figure out if the thing you just got from a drop would benefit your alt. Very cool.

One thing that threw me, before the comparisons can happen you need to log in with the alternate. Just ping each character and they’ll be available.

Blood Elf {W}HORDE!

Posted in Bawk Bawk at 3:36 am by Nibuca

On Ventrillo, fiancee mentioned to guildies that we (he and I) were starting some new Blood Elves. We’re planning to play them only one night a week.. and only with the group. One guildie asked if he could join.. then another and another. We ended up with Illyah (my toon) the Paladine, Freki (Fiancee’s toon) a Warlock, Yaoikun a Rogue, Lulong a Priest and a Verlia a Mage. It was -so- much fun.

Screen shots to prove it.

We all leveled to around 9/10. Tons of fun.

Rarh!

Posted in Monneh at 3:18 am by Nibuca

I acquired Burning Crusade from Costco. I guess it is true that you can find anything there if you look hard enough. I’m glad that it’s been a while since BC’s initial release. The newbie areas are fairly uncongested and I’m not having any huge problems fulfilling the quest requirements.

Over the last two days I played my new Dreanei Priest, Monneh, up to level 13. I’m enjoying the class. I’m also enjoying the quests. I’ve found that the Dreanei quests are a lot more entertaining than the Human or Night Elf quests. I loved fishing with a net.. and The Totem questline was tons of fun. I especially liked the buff that turned you into an invisible speed running panther. Rarrh! (I wonder if that’s available anywhere outside the questline.)

Way better than “Kill Princess” or madly running notes back and forth between farms.

I even got jumped by a stealthed Blood Elf NPC. It was very unexpected. I think Blizzard has gotten more sophisticated about its starting quests since the original game came out.

** as an aside: While killing Blood Elves I noticed that they all seem to be death drama queens.. or at least the males are. I wonder if that’s true when it’s a PC rather than an NPC.
