Last night I played Tikah, my Night Elf Hunter, for a while. I manged to ding 15. Yeah me!
At one point on Ventrillo I mentioned to my guildmates that my pet (Cat named Cricket) was having trouble holding aggro. Right towards the end of the fight, just before the critter died, it would notice me and stop hitting Cricket and turn and start towards me. Then die.
My guildmates asked what I was doing to aggro the critter. I explained that I’d mark the critter, then set my cat to attack. Then I’d hit it (in order) with Concussive Shot, Serpent’s Sting, Arcane Shot. Then I’d hit each of the three shots again when they hit the end of their cooldown.
One guild mate insisted that I was needlessly burning through mana and that instead I should hit Serpent’s Sting to turn on autoshot, then “get up and go get a bowl of cereal”. He stated a couple of times that I should be conserving mana.
My question is: Why?

So last night I went through Deadmines for my first time. In fact it was my first instance. It was also my first time using LFG. Very interesting. I have a feeling I’ll go through Deadmines a bunch more times.
I used the LFG feature and got into a very random pickup group. No two people from the same guild. We had me (a rogue), another rogue, a feral druid, a paladin, and a mage. I died twice in the instance. The whole group only wiped once.
I ended up getting [Cruel Barb]. Fiancee thought it was really funny that I got it on my first time through the instance. Guess I’m just lucky. I also dinged 20. Yeah me!
Tikataka is focused on being able to Backstab the crap out of things. I found that I did a ton of damage during the instance but I had to be really careful to not aggro the next critter by getting too far behind my target. I also found that squishy mages have a really bad habit of running from critters. At one point I wasn’t able to hit the bad guy because he was chasing the fool mage all around the room and I couldn’t catch up to him.
Post Mortem
I want to install EquipCompare. That addon allows you to instantly compare a loot item to your worn item. I spent a lot of time trying to compare things manually. I got impatient and frustrated and “greeded” a lot of things I probably should have “needed”.
I also want to install Atlas. It seems to allow you to see maps of an instance. The key-hole view on the minimap is not as satisfying as I want it to be. Plus, I’m hoping advanced maps will keep me from getting lost. It wasn’t an issue here since Deadmines is a straight line.. but I have a feeling all instances aren’t this straight forward.

This is purely a vanity addon. I love it.

Allows you to zoom, pan, tilt, and rotate the UI’s builtin models so that you may get a better view. Should support all models that can interact:
* Dressing Room (including Auction House’s)
* Character Info
* Inspect
* Pet Info/Stable
* Tabard

I can take no credit for this Macro. Fiancee and Storm spent about 2 hours working this up.
Summary:
Feeds your pet (whichever one you currently have active) food appropriate to that pet. Update the “food” values to food that you have.
/cast [pet, nocombat] Feed Pet
/use [pet:Bear/Boar/Wind Serpent, nocombat] Conjured Cinnamon Roll
/use [pet:Cat/Ravager/Wolf/Owl/Serpent/Boar/Bear/Raptor, nocombat] Roasted Quail
/use [pet:Bear/Boar/Bat/Wind Serpent,nocombat] Deep Fried Plantains
The first line gives the command “Feed Pet”. The rest of the line specify who gets what.
The 2nd line includes all pets that will tolerate bread. At higher levels you can sometimes coax Mages into giving you conjured food to feed your pet.
The 3rd line includes all pets who require “Meat, Raw Meat”. Update “Roasted Quail” to a meat that you have in your inventory.
The 4th line includes all pets who eat fruit. Update “Deep Fried Plantains” to match a fruit that you have in your inventory.
The real beauty of this macro is that it finds the first line that matches your pet and where you have that food in your inventory and it feeds your pet. You don’t have to open your professions, or your bags.. you just click the fast macro button and feed your pet. It even works while your running.
