Nostromo N52

Posted in Addons at 11:07 pm by Nibuca

After a week of tweaking and poking I think I’ve come up with something beautiful.

Nostromo N52

Bindings:
[1][2][3][4][5]
[6][7][8][9][0]
[shift][alt][x][tab]

Red button: [insert] (ventrilo key up)
Thumb button: [ctrl]

I’m using the “dpad” for movement. Specifically “wasd” for the four directions.
Up-right is a macro that hits both “w” and “d” quickly so i can go forward and right.
Up-left is a macro that hits both “w” and “s” quickly so I can go forward and left.
Down-right is “e” (strafe right)
Down-left is “q” (strafe left)

I’ve pretty much ignored the scroller thingy. I just keep forgetting it’s there. I’ve bound it to [space] and use it for jumping.

I’ve kept the keybindings very vanilla because I wanted it to work for all of my many alts. Generic keybindings are easier to re-map per character in the game.

This, combined with the addon Cogsbar has been a thing of beauty. I’m using Cogsbar for a visual reference to the keys and to provide the keybindings.

Sprite Darter Hatchling Quest

Sprite Darter Hatchling

Placing this here for future reference:
Sprite Darter Hatchling Quest Guide

The only issue I have is that the creature seems to buzz around your ankles. Very annoying. If it flies I want it up around shoulder.. or at least hip level. I had the same problem with the moths.. they have wings.. they shouldn’t scurry around at my ankles. *sigh*

Cutting a wide bloody swath

Tatia dinged 34 over the weekend. We’re still following Jame’s Alliance leveling Guide - Chapter I (30-41) somewhat. At one point the guide instructs you to “grind until you’re one bubble away from 34″ at that point I was actually only one bubble into 33 and grinding 80% of a level sounded boring.

Tanuur suggested we run off to Southshore and do some questing there. Underrated (Warlock guildie) joined us. We were Tanuur (Shaman), Zaramina (Mage), Underrated (Warlock) and Tatia (Pally). All in our early 30s. We decided to AoE-to-death any mobs we encountered.

Wow! That is -so- much fun. Our biggest problem is gathering enough mobs together.. but once we’ve got them, the fireworks (and iceworks) are totally impressive! We’d gather together mobs 4+ levels above us then blast them all in place and BAM-BAM-BAM, 8 mobs would die.

It’s a little misleading though.. I caught myself thinking oh, {insert mob name} is easy and I’d try to take one on independantly. By myself, the single mob was a good fight. Tough, but good. We quickly coupleted a couple of quests and leveled to 34.

“I went to the desert…”

Posted in Tatia at 12:45 pm by Nibuca

*sigh* I only wish I had a horse (even one with no name)(Do you get to name your pony a la hunter pet, or is it nameless like vanity pets?)

We’re buzzing along with Jame’s Alliance leveling Guide - Chapter I (30-41). We’re at the section labeled “Level 32″ even though we’re actually sitting at 31 (4 bubbles to go). Last night we visited Thousand Needles, Swamp of Sorrows, Badlands, and Booty Bay.

Running towards Rachet I had a moment when I marvelled at the scenery. Coming down from the mountains it looked like the land was covered in big billowing clouds of fog… instead it was the unending sand of the desert.. it was much cooler in my head with the fog.

While in Shimmering Flats we ran into Ironeye the Invincible (37 Elite Rare). Turns out he’s not so invinsible.

Tanuur mentioned that Ironeye drops a really cool sword, [Blade of the Basilisk]. OOOOOooo I -so- want this sword. So we decided to try and kill him.

The attempt was kind of funny in a scary kind of way. Zaramina (Mage), Tanuur(Shaman) and Tatia(Pally) start beating on Ironeye. Ironeye aggros on the Mage (of course). Pally does her best to pull the aggro back but fails miserabley (it’s the first time I’ve ever had to try and grab aggro). After some running, Mage dies. Ironeye turns his attentions on the Shaman. Tanuur begins kiting Ironeye around the field with frost shock (I think). Pally runs along plinking Ironeye from behind. (At our best, without the mage, Tanuur and I were hitting Ironeye for about 5-6 points each hit.) After almost a full minute of kiting, Ironeye dies (/cheer) and drops some crappy green shoulders (/cry).

Now that I know where he is, I’ll go back. Thottbot says he’s on a 2 day timer. So I’m thinking to try again late Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Following the guide is going well. The only hitch is that it looks like the guide is geared to solo leveling.. so grouping with Tanuur and Zaramina is throwing off the “and you should level as you turn in this quest” timing of the guide. I’m ok with it. I figure we’ll throw a couple extra Scarlet Monestary runs in and it will all work out in the end.

Linken’s Boomerang

[item]Linken’s Boomerang[/item] OOO I want!

It’s sad how much I want to be able to have ranged attacks. Everyone else gets them at level 1. Seems sad to have to wait 56 levels to be able to throw something at the baddies.

Oh, yes, I will have it! Only 25 more levels and I’ll have the skills of a level 1 rogue!!

For the love of a pony

I think the Warcraft 30s were intended to make it so you’re totally primed to buy your mount. So many quests consist of crossing the map multiple times. So much wasted time on griffins when I could be killing things. *sigh*.

We completed the Stockades last night. We being Tatia, Zaramina (32 Mage), Tanuur (29 Shaman) and Knunn (70 Rogue). Knunn is fiancee’s character. He cleared the instance and we trailed behind him as “loot monkeys”. I -think- we could have cleared it without Knunn, but he offered and it made it easy.

The next hour after the Stockades was spent running from one corner of Stormwind to the other finishing up the in-town followup quests.

At one point I was in Stormwind Keep, you know the place where the boy King is standing around with his advisors. Some other player must have been completing a quest. I was pretty oblivious (I was actually looking for the Library but had gotten turned around). So I’m standing in the back of the throne room.. only vaguely aware of whatever is going on on the dias.. when suddenly someone accuses one of the King’s advisors of being Onyxia.

I’m a lowbie but I’ve heard of “Onyxia” and her lair. Right at that moment I blurted out “uh-oh” over ventrillo and backed away from the dias.

Suddenly the advisor turned into a Dragon!! and a bunch of other “skull-leveled” critters appeared around her.

I was trapped!! Luckily the dragon disappeared and the critters all made a bee-line for the player who was actually doing the quest. I did my best to hide in the back of the room.. but the fight took an interminably long time.. and I got kind of bored. So I decided I’d sneak past the fight and run around the corner.

I’m a Paladin. As a rule Paladins don’t hide and don’t sneak. So my attempt was a poor one at best. As I “snuck” by one of the baddies did an AoE that hit me for 3/4 of my life. I ran. Luckily they didn’t chase.

Not sure exactly what that was about.. but it was definately interesting.

Even more interesting was the part where later on I had to do a quest turn in to the advisor who had turned into the Dragon. I almost didn’t want to talk to her. I mean.. she’s a bad guy. I’d seen her turn into a dragon.. just didn’t seem right telling her that we knew about Defias infiltration of the Alliance. No help for it though.. and she did give me a spiffy ring.

Next we’re starting on Jame’s Alliance leveling Guide - Chapter I (30-41). It looks pretty well detailed.

DING!

Posted in Tatia at 8:22 am by Nibuca

Thirty! Glorious thirty. According to .. everyone everywhere my happyness meter as an “PAoEladin” should now shoot through the roof. We’ll see.

It -was- kind of pleasant grinding on werewolves in Duskwood to get those last two xp bubbles. I was easily able to take on two equal level mobs without ever needing to bubble or heal. I usually ended the fight at half health. Oh, and I think I crossed a mental horizon. Suddenly it made sense to use bandages (I’ve dutifully skilled up First Aid on all my toons.. but after the fight the healing took so little time it never made sense to bandage). Last night for some reason it just suddenly clicked.. and now I whale on critters until I get to half health (and the critter dies).. then bandage and move on to the next critter. By the time I get back down to half health again I’m also able to bandage again.

PAoEladin Goodness defined:
- Damage Avoidance: When the mobs hit me I have a higher chance to block over the next 10 seconds (Redoubt)
- Damage Mitigation: Damage to me from mobs hitting me is reduced and almost eliminated (Toughness, Shield Specialization, Improved Righteous Fury)
- When the mobs hit me and I block they take damage (Blessing of Sanctuary)
- When the mobs hit me they take additional holy damage (Retribution Aura)
- When I hit a mob I heal myself (Seal of Light, Judgement of Light)
- Occationally I can AoE all the mobs for more damage (Consecrate)

Still in the wings:
- When the mobs hit me and I block they take damage ({Shield Spikes}). Guildie offered to apply [Thorium Shield Spike] to my shield but first he recommended that I get a uber-fantastic shield from Scarlet Monestary. I think SM is ~level 35 so it’ll be a couple days.
- When I hit a mob I possibly get additional attacks ({Reckoning(lvl 31)}). One more talent point needed.

Feeding my addiction.. in an ergonomic manner

Posted in Tatia at 3:26 pm by Nibuca

Woot! Tatia, my main, is now also my highest leveled character. About damned time ;)
I managed to ding 27 while waiting for my ride on Friday night (we went out of town camping for the weekend)(see, I’m not addicted).

When we returned I found a new toy waiting on the front steps. Nostromo N52. It’s a little bit dated (5 years old) but I’m hopefull it will fill the void I’m seeing in playing WoW from the keyboard.

Situation:
Standard mode of operation, dash up to mob using “wasd” to maneuver. Right-mouse click to choose target(mouse about to swivel camera for best view). Remove left-hand from “wasd” and hit proper number keys “1-6″ to trigger proper seals/judgements/consecrate.

Problems:
If I need to move during the fight I have to reposition hand on “wasd”. If I need more than 5 spells I need to reach across the keyboard to hit “7-=” (using a natural split keyboard to prevent RSI).

These problems weren’t so bad in PvE just a little annoying.. but sitting around flat-footed while hunting for the number “8″ on the keyboard is just an advertisment for some rogue to backstab me in PvP.

Solution currently in testing:
Nostromo N52
Nostromo N52

I’ll do a full review after I’ve had a chance to fiddle with it for a week or two. So far, looks promising.
