Me: Shield, You: Glass Cannon

Posted in Tatia at 8:49 am by Nibuca

Tatia hit 50 last night. My RL intrusion finished on Saturday so I’m back on track for the race to 58 (and then 70).

Yesterday I got invited into a PUG for Maraudon. I’ve never been to Maraudon but I have researched it a little (checking out the rewards, making sure I knew where to get all of the quests needed). When I accepted the summon I found that one of the group members had challenged another to a duel. I started to have a bad feeling.

“Melee Healer”

Posted in Musings, Tatia at 10:01 am by Nibuca

Blizzard has described the Paladin as a “melee healer”. The problem with being a “melee healer” is that none of our Holy talents are based off of melee.

The only healing that’s melee based would be Seal of Light/Judgment of Light but based on what I’ve read on the forums, most Holy Paladins don’t bother sealing/judging since it’s a “waste of mana” and SoL/JoL just heals too little to be useful in big boss fights.

I would love to see “Blessing of Light” increase the amount healed by Judgment of Light.. or see a holy talent like “Improved Seal of Light” that bases the amount healed on the health of the mob.

What is a tank when she’s not a tank?

Posted in Musings, Tatia at 2:41 pm by Nibuca

I don’t want to go Holy.. I want to main tank but I’m open to -not- main tanking. What use am I as a protection specced paladin if I’m not main tank?

If I’m off-tank/main assist the baddie should be hitting the main tank so I won’t be able to get Redoubt/Reckoning to proc. I need to keep my threat up so I’m second on the threat meter behind the main tank. Hard to do without Reckoning. Let’s see… white damage + Retribution Aura + Consecrate + Judgement of the Crusader + Seal of Righteousness + Righteous Fury + Blessing of Wisdom (on me)

If I’m healing I don’t want to sit-back and heal. I want to be up there hitting the baddie and healing. I believe that in this role I should have Judgement of Light up and I should minimize my threat generated so I don’t grab aggro. I need to keep behind the baddie so I’m out of harm’s way (cleve’s and the like) and yet still hit the baddie (bypassing block/parry) on a fairly regular basis to keep my judgement up. I suppose I’d want Seal of Wisdom on myself to keep my mana up.
Judgement of Light + Seal of Wisdom + Blessing of Wisdom (on me) + Blessing of Light (on my heal target) + Devotion Aura

Just thinking “out loud”.

Timbermaw Grind Day 3

Posted in Kvetching, Tatia at 9:56 am by Nibuca

Bored. Trapped. Forsaken. Woe is me.

Day 3: Again today I observed the Deadwoods Furbolgs wandering around. They don’t seem to eat.. or drink or make merry. I am also unable to locate their females. I’m stuck by the idea that maybe some of them -are- females but I have no way to confirm this. I kill them.. they wander around. I round them up and kill them.. they wander around. I empty out their tiny little lean-toos.. they come back.. and they wander around.

The biggest one in the southern camp fears me away. I run screaming and they chase me. I fail to see the point of why they chase me if they feared me away. Shouldn’t they be running (fear, run away) or dotting me (dot, dot, dot, fear)? Poor strategy if you ask me.

Warriors, gardeners and pathfinders.. and yet the pathfinders never seem to find a path.. or wander away.. and the gardeners don’t seem to grow anything. *sigh*

Perhaps they are a metaphore… yes.. demonstrating the struggle of good versus evil.. and showing that it’s neverending. I wonder if I am the good or the evil. And if that is the metaphor.. what is the meaning of the feather headdress? A symbol of the impermanence of material goods? A visual token of triumph? A useless bauble given value only through trading?

I’m 1/2 way to friendly. Losing my mind. Tatia (48 Pally), Zaramina (47 mage), and Skrymir(50 Warrior) are grinding Furbolgs. Grinding is faster with 3 people. Still just as boring though.

One happy spot though.. Tatia is able to pull at range once every 5 minutes. [Cold Basilisk Eye] is finally useful.

Glass Ceilings

Posted in Tatia at 9:04 am by Nibuca

Tatia hit 48 last night while killing Deadwood Furbolgs. They were level 48-51 so I was having to take them on one at a time. Slow going.. but I’m finally into Friendly with Timbermaw. With achieving level 48 I can now take them on two at a time. I’m finding that because of their level (and the blasted curse the halves healing) I’m having to expend a lot more mana. This made it so I kept running out of things to drink. Luckily this isn’t too far from Darnassus so the trip back and forth wasn’t too arduous.

Skinning and First Aid hit 300 last night. Cooking has been at 300 for a while. Enchanting will hit 300 as soon as I can get the mats together and go visit Annora (maybe later this week).

Fishing is at 22. Hate fishing. Loath fishing. Would rather claw eyes out. Hoping the 2.1 patch makes it better.

All of these will be stuck at 300 until I can figure out where in Outlands I need to go to train.. and get enough levels to not die on the way.

Guildie has requested that I “level faster” because he wants to play his Rogue and he’s hoping to group up. Unfortunately I have more than normal RL responsibilities so I’ll only have limited time to play this week. Next week will be better.

Oddly, I found myself longing for the Warlock while grinding Timbermaw… Life Tap+Bandages means you don’t need to drink to regain mana. Would have made it much more convenient than having to ride off to get more to drink.

Protection Paladin Creed

Posted in Musings at 3:59 pm by Nibuca

Spotted this on World of Warcraft forums:

My comrades are my weapons, and I am their shield.
While I draw breath, they shall not perish.
So long as they live, our enemies will fall.
I am defender, protector, guardian.
I am a Paladin.

Grinding Timbermaw

Posted in Tatia at 1:14 pm by Nibuca

Guildies last night were grinding Timbermaw reputation and invited the lowbies (lvl 47) along for the ride. Meilosh in the Timbermaw cave will sell some mighty nice enchanting recipes to you when you’re friendly/honored.

Zaramina and I are a little bit low to be mucking around in the north part of this area but guildies logged on Lashala (57 priest) and Chulong (64 Rogue) and Fiancee joined us briefly with his level 70 rogue so killing was very easy. Very easy to the point of Zara and Tatia acting as loot monkeys.. just collecting stuff off of the dead bodies. Kinda boring.

Run in big circle. Kill all the furlbogs in sight. Collect feathers from them. +5 reputation/normal kill… +25 reputation for killing the chieftain. +75 reputation / 5 feathers turned in (~30% drop rate).

Tatia is currently 625 into “Unfriendly. Only 11,374 more rep to go to honored (2374 to neutral + 3000 to friendly + 6000 to honored). Ugh.. Spiff. http://www.wowwiki.com/Timbermaw_Hold_reputation_guide

At the end of the night I turned in all my feathers.. and then crossed through the cave into Winterspring… another way-too-high-level-for-me zone. I’ll definitely go back there when I get a few more levels.

“Yes, I play both sides.. your point?”

Posted in Musings at 10:13 am by Nibuca

I have alt-oholism bad. Luckily I have a goal of achieving 70 with my main, Tatia, so my alt-ing only gets to take 1-2 days out of the week.

Last night guildies expressed a lot of confusion that I have a same-classed toons on both factions.

Tatia - 47 Draenei Protection Paladin
Illyah - 24 Blood Elf Protection Paladin

Ette - 8 Gnome Warlock
Ãsh - 13 Blood Elf Warlock

They seemed genuinely confused that I would have the same classes on both sides of the faction line. I don’t get it. I don’t understand why this is weird. I like playing my Paladin a lot.. and I’m learning to like the Warlock. If I like it why shouldn’t I like it on both sides? I don’t get it.
