ZOMG! Patch 2.2 teh Bomb!

WowInsider published a quick look at the 2.2 patch which is now on the PTR.

OMG! I squeed in girlish delight at these two items:
– Blessing of Kings, Light, Might, Salvation, Sanctuary and Wisdom increased to 10 minutes.
– Greater Blessing of Kings, Light, Might, Salvation, Sanctuary and Wisdom increased to 30 minutes.

OMG! Maybe blizzard doesn’t hate us.

Also of note:
– Seal of Vengeance duration increased to 15 seconds. In addition, when Seal of Vengeance strikes a target that already has 5 applications you will cause instant Holy damage.

So added holy damage (good)(I wonder “how much” instant damage we’re talking about) increased duration (good). Rawr!

I wonder if this effects the weapon speed you should use to get 100% proc rate.. I don’t think so.. I think 3.0 is still the magical number (assuming you don’t have Seal of the Crusader up).

The question I’m wondering about that change is, when Seal of Vengeance does damage once it’s stacked up to 5, it does reapply Holy Vengeance… right? It seems like common sense that it would, but what seems like common sense may not actually be true. This could be a simultaneous buff and nerf.

I very much doubt they changed the PPM for SoV. I won’t deny it’s possible, but I’m not holding my breath. But… if it does refresh even with a 5 stack, since it now lasts longer that means there’s a greater chance of it refreshing when using it with a 1H. If you’re like me and don’t have Reckoning (prefer talents that don’t rely on me getting smashed in the face to proc) a slower weapon isn’t a bad option.

Also, how could you have SotC and SoV at the same time? >.>a

Doh! You’re right.. One seal at a time. I was so giddy about the changes I completely skipped over that.

    WRT: Reckoning
I figure I’m already getting smashed in the face.. it’s dang silly to not take advantage of it..

Besides: Reckoning = Dual Wielding with a shield.

  • Reckoning is good if you’re the only tank ever. It works great for 5-mans because you really are the only tank (or you should be…)

But what about once you reach raiding level and you’re called upon to be the off-tank. It will happen eventually. It’s all well and good to think that you will be the MT forever, but the reality is that there will and must be some fights you’re better off with a non-paladin tank for. Doesn’t mean we can’t tank it, just that you’re better off with say… a druid tanking.

In situation where you’re there to ensure that if the MT goes down you can pick it up and salvage a bad situation Reckoning is doing you little to no good, while another talent that’s always active is tons better.

When you consider that the boost to damage from Reckoning is about on par with talents like Improved 1 Handed Weapons and that talent is active as long as you are using a 1 hander, to me it makes Reckoning the worst of the damage increasing talents.

Pallies are sold as great off-tanks.. but I’m not convinced.

If off-tank is defined as “you hit baddie #2 and keep him occupied until we’re ready to kill it” then reckoning is still valid.

If off-tank is defined as “You be the person the baddie goes after when the tank loses threat from snare, knockback, charm, fear, etc” I just don’t see how it’s possible.

We don’t naturally put out enough threat to end up as 2nd on the threat list unless we’re being hit. The only contributers are JoC (no threat in itself) plus SoR or SoV(possibly improved with the 2.2 patch, we’ll see), Consecrate (expensive and on cooldown). I just don’t see enough threat there when weighed agains 3k Mage crits.

In order to force the issue and generate enough threat to be #2 on the list (without actually blocking) we run out of mana. Not being hit means no heals means little/no mana regen. So without blocking I just don’t see how we’re going to be in the #2 slot.

The best you can hope for is that when the baddie breaks loose you can hit Pally Taunt very quickly to drag the baddie to you instead of some tasty squishy. And that just doesn’t inspire confidence.

  • It’s a PVE buff for Pallies for sure, but PVP (Arena) wise.. straight nerfs, aimed at BOF and BOS. =/
