Maybe PVP doesn’t suck…

A while ago I posted my List of pre-Heroic Paladin Healing Gear on the Warcraft forums. Surprisingly, I’ve gotten quite a few helpful comments on the list and I’ve been able to add quite a few good items to the list.

A few comments indicated that some of the PVP reward stuff was better than anything you could find PVE. I investigated the loot.. and determined they were right.

My only experience with PVP was running WSG at level 19 with my horde-side paladin. I got my ass handed too me many many times and had very little fun. It soured me on the whole PVP experience.

That said.. there was some good loot to be had.. could I really justify skipping PVP just because of one bad experience? *sigh* no. I decided to go ahead and give it a try to see if it was any better. As a matter of fact, it is.

Don’t call me that…

I guess that technically under my current spec I’m a Healadin. Ugh.. Don’t call me that. For some reason it just trips my “ick” sensor.

I have an aversion to pretty much every one of the cutesy Paladin names, healadin, tankadin, retadin, shockadin, etc. Why are we the only class to get these types [...]

The Elusive Mote of Life

I’m making good progress on getting my healing gear together. I need 5 more pieces.. but I’m still in good shape. Last night was all about getting the already acquired pieces enchanted.

Warlock Banish Macro

Banish
Banishes the enemy target, preventing all action but making it invulnerable for up to 20 sec. Only one target can be banished at a time. Only works on Demons and Elementals.

Much like sheeping.. but can’t be broken by hitting the mob. In fact I’ve often banished something and then set my minion on it just to build threat on the minion. Even though the banished mob isn’t taking damage they’re still tracking threat.

Tankless task

Before 70 I rarely haunted the /lfg /lfm tool. It seems silly to repeatedly instance to gear up for level 52 when you’re only going to be there for 1-3 days. So while I was leveling I just took guildie groups as they came. No real urgency to instance otherwise.

Suddenly here I am, 70, and I’m haunting lfg. I made my To-Do list.. and I know where everything is.. it’s just an instance of running it enough to get itemX to drop. My To-Do list is open enough that I actually can go to any of a few instances. For most of the morning on Saturday I waited around in the LFG queue because there were no tanks.

Coriel over at Blessing Of Kings mentioned it. There seems to be a lack of tanks in lfg. Coriel said that it’s possibly because of the hybrid tanks respecing to heal for 10-25 man raids. The problem with this theory is that you can’t really tank 10-25 man instances until you have the gear from “regular” 5-mans and heroics and I’m not finding tanks for any “regular” 5-mans. So either they’ve all zoomed past me and are well into raids (doubtful.. because there’s plenty of DPS/healers in lfg) or they’re snatched up by guilds and stay away from LFG. OR there really is a shortage of tanks.

Instancing fool

The cool thing about having a to-do list is you know what you need to-do. The bad thing is when you get lots of stuff marked off the list it means you need to make a new to-do list. I think I’m almost up to the part where I need to make a “List of Pre-Kara Paladin Healing Gear” and start running heroics.

Saturday was all about Steam Vaults and questing. I started the day needing 5 pieces of gear out of Steam Vaults.. I got all but two of them. (I even saw one of the others drop but I decided not to roll on it since it’s on my “tanking” set and I’m not currently tanking.. and the warrior tank in the group needed it). I PUGed it twice and then ran it with a guildie group. The pugs were good for rep and I got the [Cloak of Whispering Shells] for my healing set.

The Guildie group had better loot for me (I got [Mask of Penance] and [Scintillating Coral Band]) but the group was a little low on DPS.. so we wiped quite a few times on Warlord Kalithresh (he gets -really- big and red if you don’t DPS his tanks fast enough). Eventually we swapped out one DPSer for a different one and were finally able to get through.

“Rate my UI”

As promised (and I know you were all waiting with baited breath to see this) a screenshot of my UI. I am -constantly- tinkering with my UI. So whatever you see here probably isn’t what I’m currently using.

Twiddling my UI (nothing to see here, move along)

I am exceptionally bummed that either:
a) Macaroni Grill has changed their desert recipe and is now using inferior ganoche
OR
b) The SOB at Macaroni Grill drowned my chocolate cake in Hershey’s syrup (like I could mistake that insipid drool for Ganoche! PFFT!) and tried to pass it off as the real thing.

So anyway ;) logged on later than normal. I’ve been feeling the urge to mess with my UI lately. I followed a “Rate my UI” thread on the Wow Forums and so many of them were ugly, the same.. or just horribly cluttered. It made me want to mess with mine (getting to 70 and having that experience bar disappear just made the urge even worse). So last night I twiddled that for a while (no real questing.. just UI messing).

I’ve run into two problems with my UI.. but I’ve only found one solution.

List of pre-Heroic Paladin Spell Gear

[Edited to add: Please note: I have not updated this list post patch 2.3. With 1/3 of my +healing returned as +spell it's actually better for me to just DPS in my healing set.]

A set of Paladin gear that focuses on +int +spell +spell crit and +sta. A (LOL)DPS set for a Holy Paladin.

Limitations:
– Must not require Heroic runs (this is the pre-heroic list)
– Must be plate. I won’t wear cloth/leather/mail
– Prefered Stats: spell, mana per 5, intelligence, stamina

In Solo I’m gimpy Ret

The points I have in Ret suggest I should focus on +spell, +spell crit and + melee crit. My healing gear has +healing all over it which isn’t terribly useful in solo. So I need another set of gear (that’ll make 3; healing, solo, tanking).

I reviewed my current points in Ret.. and Ret itself seems to be all over the place (probably the reason it’s described as a tree with no purpose). Currently I have 17 points in Ret. Those are full points in Benediction, Improved Judgment, Improved Seal of the Crusader, Conviction and Eye for an Eye.
