This has been an odd week.. in that last night (Thursday) was our first night in Kara this week. Other RL things got in the way.
Even then, we said we’d start at 9 but Amellea, our Druid Healer, said he had to make a phone call.. so everyone else gathered at Kara.. and after waiting a while, decided to tackle animal trash.
Happy note: The kara spiders drop Netherweb Spider Silk (yeah!). Just what I needed to get another 18-slot bag. Other than that.. it was a wash of +15 rep per kill.. but no real phat lootz.
It turns out you can do animal side with only one healer.. you just have to be very judicious with the crowd control.

AKA: Downranking with a vengeance
Flash of Light rank 1 costs 35 mana and heals between 67-77. It gets 19.00% effective coefficient from your +heal. I can cast it 10 times in 15 second. Meaning it’s costing me ~117 mana per 5 to cast it.
If I have greater than 117 mp5 then whatever it heals is free heals (except for the time spent healing).
Blessing of Light gives Holy Light and Flash of Light a flat bonus. This bonus is not effected by the coefficient. WowWiki says it’s 185 for Flash of Light (http://www.wowwiki.com/Blessing_of_Light)
The [Blessed Book of Nagrand] gives a flat +79 to every flash heal.
So then with the libram and BoL and +1000 heal each FoL1 should heal for about 521 to 531 points of damage. Effectively, 347 hps.
Very interesting.

No Kara last night. We only had 8 people on.. and one of them wasn’t keyed. So we formed a group and ran him through the start of the key chain (heh.. ok.. pun slightly intended).
I think we’ll actually have him fully keyed after one more night of running him around.
While in Shadow Labs I won [Breastplate of Many Graces].. I’m very stoked. I think I’ve fulfilled everything on my List of pre-Heroic Paladin Healing Gear”. I just have a couple of nice-to-have upgrades I still want. Guess it’s time to work on my List of Kara and Heroic Paladin Healing Gear.
In my spell gear I was averaging 230 dps. Still have quite a few things to acquire on that list. I suppose it will come in time.
Also contemplating a new list.. something with high resists, stamina and int. Haven’t started anything concrete.. but getting repeatedly fireballed to death by the dragon in Heroic Ramparts kinda sucked.

Seriously, if you don’t have it, get “Recount”. I spotted this on WowInsider UI of the week feature.
It’s Yet Another Damage Meter… but it’s more much much more. I’ve only started twisting the dials.. and it’s very very pretty. How much information is too much information?
I -do- wish it had either a minimap icon or a FuBar thingy (what do you call that?.. clickable fubar tag that you click on to open it). But even without that.. it’s one fantastic infogasm. I was able to graph incoming damage, outgoing damage and then heals. Very very pretty.
[Edited to add]
Turns out they have a fubar plugin for Recount. I’m in Info heaven.

Judgment of the Crusader - Unleashing this Seal’s energy will judge an enemy for 20 sec, increasing Holy damage taken by up to 190. Your melee strikes will refresh the spell’s duration.
Having mucked through the math to get nice line charts for Seal of Righteousness vs Seal of Vengeance.. it seemed just a shame to let that go to waste. That said.. I think my math is broken.
I added in Judgment of the Crusader to see how that would effect Seal of Righteousness.. and I’m kind of surprised by the results.
Edited: My math was fine.. my method was broken.
The “up to 190″ can be thought of as +spell damage that only shows up on Holy spells (your spells and the spells of others) as modified by the +spell coefficient on the holy spell being cast.

So.. running through my daily quests.. and kept an eye on SW Stats especially the ‘Effective DPS’ part. I’m finally Honored with Ogri’la so I’ve just gotten the “banish the demons” quest. MMMmmm demons are yummy and jack my (lol)dps through the roof.
I spiked as high as 293. Woot! I know mages are snickering in their sleeve.. but for me this is fantastic.
Very toned down weekend. One run Shattered halls, one run Steamvaults. Helped a guildie with the Ring of Blood. Very quiet.

So.. I believe the previous graphs show that all else aside, Seal of Righteous will have the best DPS with a 2-handed weapon.
The problem is, one-handed and two handed weapons aren’t created equal.

Which is better from a DPS standpoint? To quote Big Red Kitty, it depends.

Here’s our basic Righteousness vs Vengeance graph. 10 second cooldown on Judgements, 0 spell damage, “normal” Seal of Righteousness. This further assumes that you’re using a 3.0 second swing for Righteousness 2-h and Vengeance and a 2.0 second swing for Righteousness 1-h.
In this example Seal of Righteousness (SoR) is better than Seal of Vengeance (SoV) for the first 19 seconds. From 19 seconds to 26 seconds they’re about the same. After 26 seconds SoV diverges upwards and is the clear choice.
The question gets more interesting when you add talents and spell damage.

I’m contemplating this spec: 44/7/10
Why respec:
Moroes is the next boss we’ll run into in Kara.
Every 30 seconds Moroes garrotes a random raid member. This is 1K damage every 3 seconds for 5 minutes for a total of 100k damage.
Garrote can be gotten rid of by the following:
* Dwarves Stoneform
* Paladins Divine Shield (self) and Blessing of Protection (others)
* Mages Ice Block
* Items which remove bleeding effects (Luffa no longer works)
* Dying and combat rez
Blessing of Protection is on a 5 minute cooldown. The Talent “Guardian’s Favor” can cut that down to 3 minutes.
So I want Guardian’s Favor.
What I’d be losing :
- Lose “Unyielding Faith” so no longer 10% resistant to fear/disorienting effects. When a group fear happens.. and everyone gets feared but me.. that means the bad guy aggros on me. Frankly I’d rather run around screaming like a little girl.
- Lose “Blessed Life” so no longer have a 10% chance to take half damage on a hit. I’ll miss it.. but frankly I hadn’t really seen it go off.. so I won’t miss it much.
What I’d be gaining:
- “Guardian’s Favor” 3 minute cooldown on Blessing of Protection
- “Improved Devotion Aura” 40% more armor on my Devotion Aura

Yes, we have finally entered Kara. We were: Tatia (Holy Pally), Amellea (Resto Druid), Gongniu (Warrior), Pheefee(Warrior), Knunn (Rogue), Drakus (Rogue), Stiletta (Rogue), Daegothh (Mage), Sibiy (BM Hunter) and Raouen (MM Hunter).
The first hallway to Midnight is on a 30 minute respawn timer. If you can’t get to Midnight before 30 minutes after you engaged the first undead horse, you’ll have adds. If there are adds when you engage Midnight, they’ll run in to help him (add to the boss fight).
After we -finally- figured this out, we were able to do the hallway in 18 minutes. We had a couple problems with the Attumen fight (AKA 4 of our top DPSers all died). It was the longest, most drawn out fight I’ve ever been in. I took 4 mana pots during the fight and the druid innervated me once or twice. Attuman dropped stuff for the druid and the mage. We were uber-geeked just to have our first downing in Kara. Go us.
Hint #2: During a boss fight, don’t release. The door won’t let you in, you won’t get to see the fight and after the fight, if you zone in, you won’t get a chance at any of the loot.
Try not to die, but if you do die, cheer for the living and hope that a rezzer will be alive at the end.
