The sewers of Lordaeron

Posted in Musings at 12:24 pm by Nibuca

Coat of Arms of LordaeronNow here’s an idea I can get behind:

“[In Caverns of Time] I think that there should be an instance that turns u into an undead and you have to take over the Undercity under the command of the Banshee queen just like durnholde and free thrall” Aloth on the server Shadowsong

That would be -so- cool!

10 Awesome Paladin Tricks

Posted in Paladins at 2:42 pm by Nibuca

Completely contradicting my “One Trick Pony” post. Here’s a list of 10 Awesome Paladin Tricks.

  1. Pally taunt is the bomb!
  2. Your bubble will remove curses and magical effects. Use it to get out of sheep/fear/garrot.
  3. With careful macro-ing, even tanks can bubble to remove curse/garrot/fear without fear of losing aggro.

    /cast divine shield
    /cancelaura divine shield

  4. Blessing of Protection on the AOEing mage after he draws aggro is way faster (and effective) than any of your heals.
  5. As healer: Pally taunt + Hammer of Justice is way better than letting that baddie beat on the shadow priest. At best it’ll give the tank 6 seconds to pick up the baddie.. at worst it will make it so the baddie is hitting the person with more armor. (less damage to heal)
  6. In solo: Bubble + bandage takes less mana than bubble + heal. Use bandages to save mana.
  7. In solo, you have three “lives” to kill something. Just don’t panic. Fight it until you get low on health, bubble+bandage back to full, fight it until you get low on health, lay on hands, fight it until you get low on health, BoP+run away.
  8. In PVP, put Judgement of Wisdom on pets and whack on them to get mana back.
  9. Pally heals have low aggro for a reason.. Even if you’re healing in most fights you can be throwing out a Seal/Judgment.
  10. Crusader Aura doesn’t stack with [Riding Crop] don’t buy one. It’s not worth it.
  11. When tanking Shattered Halls, be sure to be the first person to pass through the instance gate. Run forward and grab the overseer immediately, before all the grunts are in place. After the overseer is dead run straight down the hallway to the first turn grabbing all the mobs on the way while sending “/p I’m a fish, I’m a fish” Shattered Halls is PERFECT for pally tanking if you’re moderately well geared it should be a breeze.. the party chat is just because it’s fun ;) (especially if you know the whole story)

Ok.. I guess technially that’s 11.. but the last one is not really a trick so much as a strategy. Anyone have any others to share?

Have Some Consideration

Posted in Tatia at 1:50 pm by Nibuca

Melted ClockMonday and Wednesday are West Kingdom Kara Raid night. We start at 9 PM. At 9 you should be repaired, have buff food, have pots/elixirs/flasks and be ready to go. This is the ideal.

Last night we did not meet the ideal.. or rather all but one person in the raid met the ideal. Gongniu, the tank logged off shortly before 8:30 with a “brb”. At 9:00 EVERYONE else in the raid was standing in front of the summoning stone in front of Kara. At about 9:15 his wife popped into ventrilo to say he’d “Be right there”. At 9:30 I became pissy and checked /lfm to see if we could get a pug tank. Wife again assured us that he’d be right in. At 9:45 he finally logged in and we immediately summoned him. He said he’d need another summon since he still needed to repair. He didn’t even bother to apologize.

I was FURIOUS. I’d just spent a whole hour standing around in front of Kara waiting for his lame ass to bother to show up for a freaking raid that started at 9. How do others deal with this? WK has no DKP nor raid points.. so we have no way to punish him expect to continue to be pissy at him. GRRRR!

Brooms

Posted in Kvetching at 1:36 pm by Nibuca

Wow.. maybe I should start posting on the weekends. Sorry to shower you all with posts.. but anyway…

Ette on broomPatch notes for 2.3.2 prove that the developers hate me.

Down there.. way at the bottom:

The various Hallow’s End broom mounts now have their proper real-time (rather than game-time) duration of 14 days.

So that means the 25 brooms I amassed for my warlock and promptly stashed on a non-used bank alt.. are soon to turn into 2-week trinkets. Bah fooey.

Saturday I had a going out of the broom business sale. All regular brooms sold for 15g. I’m holding out for more for the Swift Flying Broom. *sigh*

How to be a bad Warlock

Posted in Tatia at 12:38 pm by Nibuca

Fiancee got a group together to run Heroic Botanica. We were Gongniu (Warrior Tank), Tatia (Pally Healer), Fynriss (BM Hunter) and Sibiy (BM Hunter). No one else was on.. so we jumped into LFG and eventually got a whisper from a warlock named Snotspit, I kid you not. The guildies were in Ventrillo.. the warlock was only on party chat.

Now keep in mind that at 70 I’ve never grouped with a warlock. The only guild warlock -just- hit 70 this morning (WTG Underrated). So I didn’t know exactly what to expect. My highest warlock’s only level 44.

We toddled off to the instance. Snotspit showed up flagged for PVP. I asked him to unflag and then we started to pull. Eventually his flag wore off.. but not until after I’d gotten sympathetically flagged from healing him *sigh*. Just inside the door Snotspit put a soulstone on me (one point for him). As we killed things I noticed that he was throwing a lot of Shadowbolts. Gongniu commented that he must be Destruction spec. A quick “inspect” actually showed he was deep Affliction spec.. and had a horrendous amount of +crit armor. (+crit is useless for affliction spec as there are nearly no affliction spells that can crit). We chatted about this in Ventrillo but figured as long as we weren’t doing too bad.. it was ok. Cue ominous music.

Purple Judgement

Posted in Paladins at 12:01 pm by Nibuca

Blood Elf Female in Purple JudgementWhen I built my “List of Paladin Healing Gear” it never occured to me that the pre-kara list was actually the same as the “Purple Judgement” set. I’m miffed that it’s not a “real” set as in, it has no set bonus.. but it is very lovely. I’ve currently (12/3/2007) got half the items.. and gunning to get the other four. I will say I am dreading the Heroic Old Hillsbrad.

West Kingdom Guild Reorg

Posted in Musings at 11:16 am by Nibuca

WK guildAnd as quick as that *snap* it all changes! So I wrote here about West Kingdom guild. Summary: we’re a guild of folks who play in the SCA and know each other in real life. We’re small.. but because of our stringent recruitment requirements we’re resolved to that.

Yesterday that all changed.

Well to be truthful, yesterday we made the moves to make it all change. One guildie logged on and seemed a little down when we asked him why he was down he told us that he had recently logged back into his horde-side 70 on another server.. only to find that his horde-side guild had progressed all the way to fighting the last boss of Zul’Aman. He was sad that he wasn’t geared enough on his horde-side toon to join them in ZA and he was further saddened that West Kingdom hasn’t even completed Kara yet.. so ZA is way way off on the horizon. In essence he was lamenting our lack of progression.

Are Paladins Good?

Posted in Paladins at 9:50 am by Nibuca

PaladinAre Paladins naturally good? The last post “Are Warlocks Evil?” got a surprising amount of response (yes, 7 is surprising). The general concensus seems to lie between “warlocks are evil” and “players play warlocks as evil”. So.. as the class opposite (and yes, if there were a wheel of classes I’d put warlocks on the opposite side from paladins), are Paladins naturally good?
