Paladin Divine Illumination Macro

Divine IlluminationDivine Illumination
Instant, 3 min cooldown
Reduces the mana cost of all spells by 50% for 15 sec.

Divine Illumination is deep in the Holy tree. It costs 0 mana and doesn’t trigger the global cooldown. I’ve had the talent for a very long time but I’ve been -really- bad about using it during combat. It’s one of those “long-ish” cooldowns so I try and “save it”. Which most of the time means that by the time I could best use it, I’m up to my ears in heals and forget to use it.

Earlier this week I was thinking about it and decided that I needed to use it more. After I figured out that it wasn’t on the global cooldown I decided to make it part of one of my healing macros. At first I put it on Flash of Light.. but the “I couldn’t cast something” noise that kept firing off with every Flash was just making me buggy. So I moved it to Holy Light. Here’s the macro I’m using:

#show Holy Light
/cast Divine Illumination
/cast [target=mouseover] Holy Light

I’m setting the target to be my mouseover since I use Grid+Clique to heal. I’ve bound the macro to shift+left click on helpful units. If you just used keybound marcos you could take out “[target=mouseover]” and it would use your target instead.

Ultimately I decided it was best to only put this in the Holy Light macro. Normally 56%+ of my heals are Flash of Light. I only start throwing out Holy Light when things are going wrong. Holy Light has a higher mana cost than Flash of Light and will save me more mana if the Divine Illumination is applied to the Holy Light casts.

According to last night’s WWS of our Kara run I used Divine Illumination 26 times.. this as compared to the -0- times used in the three previous Kara runs.

    You know… I was looking to do this, just never got around to it. Now you have gone and made it very easy… just cut and paste and done !

    Thanks man…. I use Grid+Clique also and getting this added will help quite a bit.

  • Might I recommend:

    #show Holy Light
    /script UIErrorsFrame:Hide()
    /cast Divine Illumination
    /cast [target=mouseover] Holy Light
    /script UIErrorsFrame:Clear();UIErrorsFrame:Show();

    The two /script lines above will hide the error frame, do the work, then clear any errors and reshow the error frame.

  • Good going. I also use a mouseover and Grid. Don’t use clique though.

    I put DI into my FoL macro a week or so back to get better mana efficiency and it makes a big difference from never using it :P

    I tend to FoL x 5 then HL(5) to keep up lights grace and only HL(11) when required so no point in saving DI for the Holy Light.

    I knew there was a way of turning the errors off but hadn’t implemented it yet, thanks Hayze :)

    Be sure to check out Rohan’s article about the “Light’s Grace Macro”
    http://blessingofkings.blogspot.com/2007/08/lights-grace-macro.html

    Summary:
    Through creative macroing Rohan keeps Light’s Grace up while using Flash of Light and downranked Holy Light.

    Macro:

    #showtooltip
    /castsequence reset=10 Holy Light(Rank 5), Flash of Light, Flash of Light, Flash of Light, Flash of Light, Flash of Light

    I -think- that that would be updated to the following for use as a mouseover macro.. or for use with Grid+Clique.

    #showtooltip
    /castsequence [target=mouseover] reset=10 Holy Light(Rank 5), Flash of Light, Flash of Light, Flash of Light, Flash of Light, Flash of Light

    Use this in place of your “regular” full-rank Flash of Light.
