“You’re not.. like us.. are you…”

Recruiting is going great!!! Recruiting sucks We’ve gained tons new players just today. We lost another player. We’re up, we’re down. We only need 2 more healers to do 25-mans.. no, wait.. we need 4 *sigh* I’m emotionally drained from all the highs and lows.

I’ve been in West Kingdom for a year and a half. In that time we had exactly ZERO people quit the guild. Since we started recruiting we’ve lost 3 of the new recruits. We’ve only been recruiting for 2-3 weeks.

Sometimes it’s them. Sometimes it’s us. Sometimes it’s a long simmering desire they’ve had to give up Wow.. that didn’t actually express itself until after they’d joined our guild. Sometimes it’s the fact that they’ve been in the guild a WHOLE WEEK and we still haven’t run a 25-man(poor them). I’m feeling drained. I’m taking a vacation. Those two things aren’t exactly related.. I’ve planned to take this vacation since about January of this year.. the two things just happen to coincide.

Just a quick “RAWR!”

Ran ZA last night. Not enough healers signed up/logged on so I ended up going on Tatia my Holy Pally. We made one timed chest and missed the second by only a few seconds. I’m confident we’ll start getting those soon. We downed the Lynx boss but had alot of problems with Dragonhawk (No pally for the adds). We called it with only 3 bosses down.

I picked up the [Chestguard of Hidden Purpose]. I even had banked a bunch of heroic gems so I was able to gem it out and immediately wear it.

After the run Tatia went and did dailies on the Isle of QQ and dinged exalted on the very last turn in (don’t laugh.. I’ve been distracted). So she was -FINALLY- able to make the Redeemer’s Alchemist Stone.

The combination of the two of those put her unbuffed +healing at 1919. RAWR!

Pugnacious

On Sunday I was futzing around on my baby druid and as I left Stormwind I saw a comment in /trade that someone was putting together a Kara pug.

West Kingdom did Kara this week.. and it was totally cleared.. and there wasn’t any stirrings of setting up another Kara run.. so Tatia, my holy Pally, had no RaidId. Badges sounded like a good idea. Now normally I’m totally against pugs. They’re painful and usually full of more fail than I can handle.. but as part of our guild recruitment effort I’ve been doing more pugs. So I whispered the leader and got an invite.

Our group was: Blackdwarf (Pally MT), Spriteguy (Druid OT), Autum (Holy Priest), Dister (Holy Priest), Tatia (ME) (Holy Pally), Gunne (Hunter), Bornan (DPS Warrior), Demonhawk (DPS warrior), Cosmicpower (Mage), and Underrated (Dest Warlock).

Officially dual-boxing

Woot! I’m all cutting edge!

On Saturday I logged into both my account and fiancee’s account (I pay for both accounts) (fiancee is out of town and off computer until 8/15) and had his elixir spec’d Alchemist mix me up some Elixirs of Major Shadow Power. Booya!

Ok… so I did log into both accounts..and it was on the same PC.. but my poor PC really can’t handle it. It was stuttering and lagging horribly. I’m pretty sure I would only be able to do it if I ran Wow in minimal graphics mode with no addons.. and what fun would that be?

On the plus side, he did proc 10 additional elixirs for me

Well duh, you’re a warlock.

Last night we finished off Kara. Not hard considering the only things left standing were Chess, Prince, Netherspite.

I’ve decided I hate Netherspite less when I’m not in the red beam.

We wiped once on Prince (bad infernal placements as always) and on the second attempt I got locked in the hallway (DOH!). The tank asked “Is everyone ready?” I said “I’m just eating my spell food” (I had 2 more sec’s until the buff) and then he pulled.. without realizing I was still eating in the hallway.. on the -other- side of the door.

Kara FTW

West Kingdom headed into Kara. For most of the run we were:
Gongniu (Prot Warrior), Mugruith (Resto Druid), Khoss (Resto Shaman), Lilac (ME)(Affliction Warlock), Wawepop (Mage), Lashala (Shadow Priest), Nassar (Shadow Priest), Ynit (Destruction Warlock), Shenzon (Rogue), Azaria (Melee Shaman)

We did have a little bit of musical toons though:
Azaria swapped out for Gaileth (Prot Warrior) for Moroes so we could have a second tank for the adds. Then Gaileth was swapped out for Seanarra (Holy Paladin) for the Maiden fight (both so we could have a Pally for that fight and to give Seanarra a chance to pick up the mace).
Khoss disconnected and Zynnia (Holy Priest) Kindly stepped in for Moroes and Maiden while he was getting that worked out.
After Curator Optimage (Mage) and Stiletta (Rogue) swapped in for Shenzon and Azaria who had to leave for the evening.

Level grinding

I really enjoy the podcast WowCast by Alachia. It’s unfortunate she doesn’t put out more of them. They are different from the “normal” podcast in that she examines and discusses topic about Wow as a social medium not just Wow news.

In her last show though she had one comment that caught me off guard. She said:

…I find a lot of happiness in Wow that is why I’m still playing the game. Although I do have my doubts about the Wrath of the Lich King. I will not lie. I am kind of one of those people you read about in the forums who’s just like “I don’t know if I can do this again”. Another set of level grinding, the whole who are we going to party with up to level 80, who’s going to be in the 10 mans instance with us, are we going to progress to the 25-mans…

Why is “leveling” considered a grind? Why can’t it be considered fun? Is grinding reputation or honor -more- fun than leveling?

The Bench Warmers

I want people to want to raid with us. I want us to have a pool of raiders that is greater than our need. I want people to be able to “take a night off” and not have it prevent us from raiding.

This means that we’ll end up with a situation where we need 25 people and have 30 people available.

How do you choose who goes? How do you keep it fair so that the 5 people who aren’t chosen stay in the guild and have a fair chance at going “next time”?

Guild First: Dragonhawk lord Jan’alai

West Kingdom went into Zul’Aman and took down a new boss.

We were: Gongniu (Protection Warrior), Heimdal (Protection Paladin), Tatia (ME)(Holy Paladin), Ireena (Holy Priest), Khoss (Resto Shaman), Spiralla (Caster Shaman), Odisia (Mage), Wawepop (Mage), Bowsong (MM Hunter), and Sibiy (BM Hunter).

On Tuesday we went in an clear out the Bear and Eagle boss. Last night we cleared to the DragonHawk Boss and gave him a couple good attempts.

After many different tries we came out with a winning method.
- Kill one of the hatchers. Allow the other hatcher to open up all of the eggs on one side (then kill him off so he doesn’t hatch the other side). DPS will single target the hatched dragon hawks until the Pally tank declares that he has “enough” aggro. Then AOE the rest of the dragon hawks down.
- On the second set of hatchers, do the same thing with the other side of dragon hawks.
- Then kill the boss.

I think in all the fight took us ~6 mins once we engaged the boss.
