State of the UI: July 2008

Review of my UI. In combat:

Full Size picture

Starting at the top.

Fubar: Across the top you see FuBar. From left to right you see:
ExperienceFu, MoneyFu, DurabilityFu, QuestFu, eeShards, A bit empty space. AlarmClockFu, TCGTradeSkillsFu (mouseover shows my tradeskill levels for all of my toons and clicking on the icons triggers -that- tradeskill for this toon).

I also have a bottom bar.. but it only shows up on mouseover. On that I have Omen, RecountFu, MetaHud, AddonSpamfu, and performancefu

Chatter: On the top far right is Chatter. It prettifies the chat box. It also allows me to set sounds when certain words occur (my name). In the last “State of the UI” I was using Prat. I’ve since updated to Chatter because it’s wowace.. and it’s supposed to have a smaller memory footprint than Prat.

TourGuide: On the top-right I show TourGuide – Questing guide for more efficient leveling. The current addon has no way to turn it off so if it’s on for -this- toon it’s always on the screen.

Omen: Back on the left-hand side I have Omen2, my threat meter. Don’t leave home without it.

MetaHud and Mik’s Scrolling Battle Text: The center of the screen, around my toon is my Hud. I use meta hud for the bars and targeting info.. and Mik’s Scrolling Battle Text to show and label the incoming and outgoing hits/heals. This part of the UI hasn’t changed in a long time. Though I have toyed with the idea of eliminating the HUD. It seems to be too much “in your face” but when I’ve turned it off I feel like I’m missing a hand. So I leave it on.

On the far right I’m using SimpleMiniMap to change the map to square. The line on the map are from Routes. I was flying around Terrokar picking herbs when I did this screenshot. The Route line is shown on the minimap and on the main map when I open it.

DepositBox: The padlock icon on the minimap is for DepositBox. I’ve written that addon up before. It hides my money from me.. and prevents me from spending it. All good things.

Pitbull – I’m using pitbull to manage my unit frames. Shown on the screen from left-to-right is my pet, target of pet, player, target, and target of target. Pitbull, Dotimer and Quartz are all using the “Outlineâ€? bar texture from SharedMedia.

Bartender3 and OmniCC: Below Omen is my button bar. I’m using Bartender3 to manage my buttons. Shown is my main “I’m fightingâ€? buttons. If I hold down CTRL this button bar completely updates to a new set of 20 buttons. Those are mostly “I’m fighting” spells with a cast time (Unstable Affliction, Immolate, etc) (Blessings on my Paladin). If I hold down ALT the button bar completely updates again to a totally new set of 20 buttons. ALT is my “need buttons for it but don’t need to see it all the timeâ€? buttons. Things like my enchant/disenchant buttons… bandages, etc.

Also sprinkled around the screen is 4 more button bars that only show when you mouse over them. Over just above the minimap is the bar that holds all my triggered abilities (unending breath, Demon armor, auras etc). The bar only shows when I wave my mouse over it.

If something was on cooldown then OmniCC would show the countdown on the button.

Dotimer: To the right of the button bar is the CoolDown timers from Dotimer. Dotimer also is responsible for the .. dot timer that is just to the right of Grid. This is useful on my Paladin.. and indispensible on my warlock. I’ve turned off the “Communication module of Dotimer to keep it’s spammy-ness from messing with Omen.

Quartz: Quarts is showning the casttime of my Shadow Bolt. If the mob was casting a spell they would get their own cast bar.

Grid and Clique: At the bottom center of the screen is Grid. I’ve installed Grid, GridAlert, GridSideIndicators, GridStatusRaidIcons, and GridStatusPvP.

I use Clique combined with Grid to heal on my Paladin.

See: At a Glance and How I Heal, Grid+Clique

Power Auras is the addon that’s putting the faint purple symbol on the screen on the bottom middle. This aura tells me that I don’t currently have a +spell damage flask/potion up (I’m farming herbs… it didn’t seem necessary).

Not shown but critical:
PallyPower: On my Paladin on the far right is PallyPower. This tremendously eases blessing management.
EquipCompare – Compare new item to worn item
TBag – Bag management.

Not shown but terribly useful:
AuctioneerAdvanced and Enchantrix – The Auction House mods.
BigWigs – Used in raids to give info about what a boss is going to do next and when.
BulkMail2Inbox – Used to pull multiple things out of the mailbox all at one time.
Cartographer – Mapping mod.
CLSaver – Automatically turns on your combat log for instances where you’ve told it you want the combat log turned on. Terribly useful if you plan to WWS a report of the run.
ControlFreak – Used to keep mobs cc’d. Makes a sound when CC breaks. I like it.. but it doesn’t do everything I want.. so I’m not sure I’ll stick with it.
GroupCalendar – Used by the guild in-game to setups and sign up for raids.
Jim’s Cooldown Pulse – Addon to “pulseâ€? buttons on your screen when their cooldown is up.
MobNotes – Allows you to add notes to mobs. Things like “Can’t be CC’d” or “Will mind control party memebers”.
Outfitter – Keep “outfits” and change them with a keystroke.
RatingBuster – Translates “22 crit strike ratingâ€? to “+1% Critâ€?
Recount – Damage meter
SolarianAlarm – Specialty mod used for the Solarian fight.
TooltipWrangler – moves the tooltip to where I want it (upper left-hand corner of the screen)

For warlocks:
DemonTrainerFrame – Helps you to not accidentally buy the same grimoire twice. I actually prefer the addon “GrimoireKeeper” but I haven’t found a good update of it since the 2.3 patch.

Fluff:
CloseUp – Allows you to zoom in on your toon in the dressing room.
GFW_Linkerator – Allows you to type [hammer of destiny] into chat and have it show up as a clickable item.
MacroTalk – Give you some easier-to use options for communicating in macros.
Mendeleev – Updates the tooltip to show where loot comes from and drop rate.. and to show what this item is used for.
