Something in the Water

Ok.. so the hubbub from Blizzcon has died down. That was alot to swallow all at once. That said.. I wanted to specifically mention something.. Something that hasn’t gotten very much attention.

Blizz has decided with this next Expansion to do something about the water.

Here’s water today:
Bumpy, repetitive, lining up oddly, not very convincing.

Cataclysm’s water:

The water is AMAZING. The waves wash up on the shore in uneven patterns. Check out the Cataclysm Trailer for more in-motion screenshots.

You should try to find a water picture from vanilla, before the changed it to their current state. If I remember right, it was even worse.

  • Heh… yeah, I remember being really impressed when they upgraded the water to the current state. And now… going forward… wow. It is nice that they go back and “fix” their models (granted the whole world is changing this time) so that they can take advantage of increased processing speeds. Also… so we’re not ending up with EQ disasters where the original starting zones looked like crap compared to the expansions and “plains of power” or whatever.

At any rate, nice catch, Nib.

  • Ooooh!!! Check the video about 1/2 way through, when they’re doing the goblin starting area. Now that’s pretty!
