Home is where you set your Hearthstone

My hearth is set in Dalaran. The Legermain Inn to be precise. I found that the “alliance-side” inn was just too busy. A quick survey of my guildies shows that they hearth in Dalaran so they can be close to all of the Northrend instances and to the city portals in case they need to go to somewhere in the old world.

So.. consider the implications of this change (from the 3.3 Patch notes):

Instance Teleporting
When you use the dungeon tool to find a dungeon, you’ll get ported to the inside of the dungeon, much like the current Battleground system. When you leave the instance, you will be returned to your previous location. If you need to leave temporarily, such as for repairs or to purchase reagents, you can teleport back to the dungeon again. This feature can be used both by groups looking for other players and by premade groups of five who use the dungeon tool.

Immutables

Well, it’s official, Paid Race Change is now live. At this point, the only immutable choice at the time of character creation is Class. Everything else can be changed/fiddled/fixed.

Fundamentally I’m ok with that.

I’m not planning to take advantage of the service. If I had my way Draenei would be able to [...]

Addon: CLSaver

CLSaver (short for Combat Log Saver) toggles your /combatlog on/off as you enter/leave raid instances. You could totally do it manually.. but if you’re like me.. you’d forget. CLSaver does it automatically.

/combatlog save all of the entries in your Combat Log into a file in your WoW Logs directory. This file can be uploaded to online WoW parsers (WWS, World Of Logs) or manually parsed (yuck) to find out information about the combat.

Example WWS report: http://wowwebstats.com/llv3lh6katatm
Example WoL report of the same fight: http://worldoflogs.com/reports/lsev94zve8eg3hn8/

In addition to CLSaver I recommend you also read through Stoppable Force’s excellent article about setting up your combat logs to be automatically archived.

In which the role of huntard will be played by Nib

noobLast night, after a sucessful ToC-10 guild run (where every boss dropped +hit cloth and I was the only DPS clothie in the raid)(poor me) and a sucky Ony-25 pug (we experienced failure to tank and wiped repeatedly), finally I logged onto my baby hunter and helped a level-appropriate guildie group run Ramparts and then Blood Furnace.

The group was
– 60/61 me, noobing it up on my hunter..
– 59/60 Fiancee who is normally a tank playing his first-ever healer, pally healing his first ever instance.
– 59/60 Drk who is normally a Rogue playing the Druid tank. Half way through the night he commented that he had to keep reminding himself not to run away from the mobs.
– 61/62 Arodai who normally plays a rogue on his Ret Paladin (who doesn’t have pally power.. but should)
– 60? Grimr who is not a noob playing on his DPS-warrior who is decked out in PVP gear (and throughly showed us all up). Grimr usually plays our top-dpsing hunter in the guild.. and I’m sure /facepalmed at my noob through most of the runs.

I stayed up -way- too late and I’m totally wiped out today. Anyway, I totally noobed it up. I mean but good.

Fail pugs (Boston Terriers) make me sad

I’ve been pugging lately. Not much going on in-guild for 25s.. and well guild isn’t doing OS+3 Zerg.. so I’ve been looking elsewhere for satisfaction. Unfortunately lately I’ve been finding a lot of fail.

Onyxia.. which pet?

onyxia1Onyxia is a fight of three parts.

Part 1: on the ground, tank and spank. Stay out from the front (cleave/fire breathing) and behind (tail swipe) her.. and whale on her until she reaches some percent (honestly I don’t know what percent) at which point she walks across the room and takes off into the air.

Part 2: Ony flies around the ceiling of the cave and occationally shoots out little fireballs and deep breaths. At this point she seems to be out-of-reach of melee. Melee kills the big adds, Ranged dpses on Ony or on packs of whelps. Everyone avoid the deep breaths.

Part 3: Ony hits 40% and lands. Back to a tank and spank except now occasionally Ony fears everyone and the floor erupts in lava bursting out of the cracks (don’t stand on a crack, don’t pop any more whelps out of the whelp caves, kill her until she’s dead).

Addon: LinkWrangler

Sometimes you just need to look at more tooltips than the default UI shows. LinkWrangler allows you to open multiple linked items all at the same time.

When I’m cycling through my gear trying to figure out which two rings are best (out of the six I have) I’ll whisper the links to myself and then [...]
