Pretty Trinket

montres_steampunk_1Trinkets scare me. I mean they’re lovely bits of sparkle that have tasty buffs on them.. but for some reason, I have a very hard time telling if trinket A is better than trinket B. I blame the proc. For some reason the proc part of the trinket just scares me. The math of the proc just makes my eyes cross.

Here’s an example:
Sundial of the Exiled vs Abyssal Rune vs Embrace of the Spider

They’re all so similar.. and I just get confused. Which two should I use?

That reminds me…

I knew I’d read about it before but I’d forgotten where.

That is, the Nameplate change. In 3.3 they’re making a couple of changes to the way Nameplates work.

Read this post from the official forums.. almost a year ago: http://blue.mmo-champion.com/27/12065380712-healer-boredom-a-ui-issue.html

It’s a very very cool idea. I’m very pleased to see them taking this suggestion into [...]

WoW Jackass

jackass-2_5On TwistedNether Blogcast we have this section of the podcast where we introduce any and all authors who have introduced themselves on Blog Azeroth. It’s something “new” we’re doing to help the community to find the new bloggers. Anyway.. this last week (in the show coming out today/tomorrow) we got an author introduction from the author of the site WowJackass. Now I was a little hesitant to discuss it.. since it’s not really a blog.. but what the heck.. resource sites are part of the WoW community too.

Addon: CloseUp

Ok.. I’ve been posting about too many totally useful addons lately. Here’s one that’s frivioulous.

Closeup allows you to spin you character and zoom in/out in the changing room. It’s a vanity addon that lets you see what things look like close up. It also works in the character pane.. and on inspect.

Really.. it’s [...]

Five Things: Scribbles of ideas

These things are cool.. but not really enough (yet) to string out into a full post.. so I’ll babble about them and see what comes.

Thing 1:Nameplates
On the 3.3 PTR they’re making nameplates visible from further away.. and not jump around.. and pay attention to LOS

Verdict: Bad for PVPers (which I’m not one of) but potentially good for healers. This could allow healers to heal ppl based on their nameplate floating above their head. This is good because it will let healers pay attention to more than just their raid frames.. but has the potential badness that they might not notice someone behind them who’s taking damage. Overall I like the idea.

I -think- I’d like it more if nameplates that were out of range could be showed as greyed out.. or something like that. We’ll see.

The Cleaning Power of Ruts

Stuck in a rutI think I’m in a rut. It’s not a bad rut.. but it’s kind of a rut.

My evenings are as follows:
– Log into Pally and use Alchemy to make an epic gem (currently making dreadstones). Send stone to banker toon.
– Log into banker toon. Check to see if last gem sold (usually they do), check to see if prices are meh ok (160-190g) if so, list a gem to sell. Scan AH and check for any deals.
– Log into Warlock. Check on the daily heroic. Get in LFG for a 25.
– Get into a pug-25 or get bored, make dinner, catch up on blogs for a while, wander off and fold laundry.

The good news is that I’m almost all caught up with laundry. …

Affliction, the imaginary spec

e_to_the_pi_times_iThe scene: Onyxia 25 PUG.
I’m one of 4 warlocks in the run. A quick inspect of the others show that they’re all cookie-cutter destruction.

Out of the blue, during the standard PUG discussion** where every shaman demands 4 different pally buffs and someone randomly whines that they’re missing buffs but they don’t know which one.. and repeated requests for vent info (there was none)… out of the blue one of the warlocks typed the following in Raid:

/raid Fantacyx: Lilac, you don’t exist.
After a stunned moment I replied /raid Lilac: I beg your pardon.

I mean I’d always thought I existed.. but it’s really more of a metaphysical conversation than I expected to have in a PUG raid.

Addon: TBag – Shefki

I think TBag is one of the very first addons I ever installed. It’s been part of my UI since March 2007 (about a month after I started playing WoW).

TBags is an indispensable inventory addon. It works right out of the box with no additional fiddling. It shows your inventory all-at-once and then sorts it into logical groupings.

That said, if the arrangement doesn’t please you, you can fiddle with it.
