Late to the party and I only brought Affliction Warlock Cataclysm pre-beta info spooge

I am not a mage. With that out of the way I’ll stop QQing about Warlocks becoming more Mage-like with the announced changes and just move on.

I also only play Affliction (the one true Spec) :) .. and I don’t PVP so it seems silly for me to try commentate on Destruction or Demonology.. or PVP. So I won’t.

Affliction things I could potentially care about:

TL;DR: It’s better then a kick in the teeth. OH and Hi, yeah.. been hectic here.  Life and all.  If you ever decide to fall off a horse.. just don’t.  It’s better that way

- Affliction: Spell Damage, Spell Crit, Shadow DoTs: The damage caused by Shadow damage-over-time spells is increased.

I’m a bit surprised to see Crit in there instead of Haste. I thought Crit was for Destruction.. but c’est la vie. Haste is dead(-ish), Viva Crit. That said.. looking over all the stuff below.. I see more synergy with Haste than with Crit.. so maybe more to come on this.

- Fel Flame. Instant cast. Refreshes the duration of Unstable Affliction. probably will have a cooldown.  I like this for the “move out of the fire”  ”but all my dots will drop” thingy. Has potential.

- Dark Intent. 3% crit to you for 10 second 3 stack damage buff for me.

- Demon Soul: Too damn vague. Probably has something nice for me.. but lack any details for me to be able to figure that out. Bet this finally gives me a button to push when the RL says “burn cooldowns”. Then again.. I’m in the burn it if you got it clan.. so every 2 mins I expect to hit this button.

All DoTs benefit from Crit/Haste innately. Haste will add additional ticks…
Not sure how this works out. If I have 1 point of haste.. does it add another tick? Is the damage of that added tick reduced? Is this tick added to the regular duration? Or does it extend the duration of my DoT? (and if it extends the duration of my DoT then how freaking silly is it to call the stat “haste”). How does this added tick jive with the new mechanic where re-casting a DoT adds to the duration of the DoT. Lots of confusion here. I foresee lots of quality time with a test dummy.
Also guess this means the Glyph of Quick Decay is not long for this world.

Curse of Agony/Curse of Doom becoming Bane (magical instead of curses).
So the question will be: Which Bane is better, Agony or Doom (probably spec dependent). AND which Curse is better: the Elements, Exhaustion, Tongues, or.. um.. those other ones (we have other curses right?). For the curse I suppose for raiding this means figuring out where the exact overlap is.. ie, Elements unless you have a Boomkin or DK covering the debuff.. then.. um.. that one that reduces AP would probably be a not bad choice as long as it’s not already covered.. what was that one called again. /wanders off to consult her spell book.

Soul Shards..
I only get 3 of these per fight.. so they’re precious. It seems silly to burn one to get a buff to a single cast of my Unstable Affliction.. I mean I guess I can see it if that offers the best cost-per-Soul Shard benefit.. but it seems a bit lame.

Also, “Drain Life + Soul Burn = Reduces cast speed by 60%.” I’m not sure I -get- that. First off… unless DL is going to become something I do ALOT I just don’t see it getting one of my precious Soul Shards.. otherwise.. what does it mean to reduce the cast speed of a channeled spell by 60%? /puzzled.

From der Hexenmeister: “When farming, three shards will be far too many because fights are so short, while in raids the fights can last up to ten minutes against bosses and three shards simply won’t be enough.” /agree

Remember the QQ when we went from infinite shards to 32. Yeah.. that.

Pandemic will now cause Drain Soul to refresh Unstable Affliction and Bane of Agony on targets below 25% health.
Ok.. so Pandemic is become like Everlasting Affliction.. but.. why would I be using Drain Soul? I mean it’s not like I can get more soul shards.. Just.. huh.. Also, I wonder if it’s just the initial cast that does the refresh or if it will refresh on ticks.. probably just the initial cast.. that bites… well ok.. it bites but still refreshing UA is good.

Infernal and Doomguard converting to “guardians” instead of permanant demons.
NICE! This means that at least the Infernal will be used on EVERY fight.. natch!

Tangential:
The knockback to the succubus makes me laugh. I loved this comment by Aphroditi: “An invisible target that can be placed anywhere that sends an aoe knockback for 8 yards outside the GCD is just ludicrous. The game breaking ramifications of this just makes me realize how awesome it is to be a warlock.”

Since Metamorphed ‘locks won’t get Turn Evil’d or Banished.. I wonder if Tree druids will still be Banishable.. or bear/cats um.. turn.. beast-able?

  • I am wondering if the crit thing is why it is all over our Tier 10.

    It is almost like they gave our DoTs the ability to crit now suddenly they want us to fully embrace it . . . almost like a mage.
