There ought to be an easier macro…

So mounts changed. I noticed that even my “slow” land mounts are suddenly able to get as fast as my fastest land mount.. AND since I’d finished the “Long Strange Trip” all my flying mounts are at 310%.

This gives us an interesting opportunity. I finally get to run around on whatever mount I want to fast or slow and see them all. So I started looking for a macro. I know I could have done with an addon.. but I’m trying to slim down on addons.

So anyway about the macro.

I think I found this on WoWWiki.. and tweaked it slightly.

Flying Macro:

/run n={“rake”,”ryp”,”rpet”,”qui”};z=random;s=”Mount”;if IsMounted()then Dismount()return end i=0;while i<1 do m=z(200);for j=1,#n do b=({GetCompanionInfo(s,m)})[2];x=strfind(b or"",n[j]);if(x~=nil)then i=9;break;end end end CallCompanion(s,m)

Land Mount Macro:

/run n={“Ram”,”eed”,”amm”,”odo”};z=random;s=”Mount”;if IsMounted()then Dismount()return end i=0;while i<1 do m=z(200);for j=1,#n do b=({GetCompanionInfo(s,m)})[2];x=strfind(b or"",n[j]);if(x~=nil)then i=9;break;end end end CallCompanion(s,m)

These should all be on one line.

That said.. there ought to be an easier way… something like:

/castrandom [flyingmount]

or

/castrandom [landmount]

I really hope that Blizz makes this possible.

[Edited to add:
I've since updated to using the addon GupPet instead of macros. It saves me on macro space and made it so I could random out any of my pets/mounts. C'est la vive. ]

  • Sadly, I long ago abandoned the lovely macro for something that could deal a little better with the corner cases. I strongly suspect that Blizz has avoided implementing something like /randommount for that very reason. The addon guys are constantly having to tweak for this or that exception. “Organic”, we haz it.

  • There is an add-on called Livestock which lets you pick a random mount; land, flying or combo. It lets you omit certain ones if you don’t want them too. It makes you a macro which you can then keybind and off you go. The only one it doesn’t recognise (as far as I know) is the seahorse.

    It also does random pets, which was how I found it :) Good luck!

  • Oh durr – didn’t read properly – you said you can do with an add-on. Think I need more sleep – sorry!

  • I was so happy when I realized all my mounts scaled to my riding skill. Frankly I loved my slow mounts, just because they aren’t covered in armor.

  • I absolutely love the addon GoGoMount. Compared to other addons, it’s got to be my leanest. Typically it’s DBM and Recount #1 and #2 respectively.

    It randomly picks a land mount or flying mount depending on where I am. Then I have a second button that is just for my mammoth mount, so I can have instant access to my 3-person, vendor mount.

    I have a Macro that still works from WotLK, can’t remember where i got it from. But have one for flying mount which cast flying mount on fly select and switch aura to Crusader as well and on land back to regular when land. In same macro if you select to fly and you can’t fly where you are it will cast you land mount named in the macro as well.

    I guess now we have underwater areas, I should probably adapt it playing with it and see if it can cast the Sea Horse instead as well whenever actually in water. But that will only works in Vashj’ir zone for the Sea Horse. I guess i could set it to the Sea Turtle for rest of world however not many places at all i can think of that use Sea Turtle anyway doing allot of underwater stuff.
