Six of Random

Random the first: I finally noticed that my guild got high enough (and I got enough rep with it) to buy the BoA cloaks. This is now added to my BoA gear set. I have a nice clothie set that I pass around (weapon, chest, shoulders, trinket 1, trinket 2, cloak) . Currently I’m sharing it between my baby Blood Elf Warlock (20), baby Worgen Shadow Priest (20), and my Dranei Mage (50) I feel kind of guilty when I scroll through my character list and see 2 of them standing around in their underwear. Also.. I had a thought last night as I was pulling the gear set out of the mailbox.. that this is kind of like getting hand-me-downs in a big family.. They’re slightly tattered.. and smell vaguely of fel fire.

Random the second: I made a push this weekend to get my baby shadow priest to 20. Even though I was out of rested XP I wanted to get her “mount” before changing to the next toon. She is a skinner/Herbalist and I made a push early in the weekend to get her herbalism caught up with her level. For some reason, while leveling through the Worgen area her herb skill fell way behind. Getting her herb skill caught up gained her almost two levels.. which meant that I almost lost the thread of Darkshore questing since she’s leveled past the quests there. After a few false starts I’ve caught up with the quests there. She’s still way above where she should be for that zone.. I think the combination of herbalizing and BoAs is pushing her way faster than expected for the zone. Having gotten her “mount” skill.. where she can run on all four’s, I can say there’s nothing more fun then running the roads of Darkshore.. and leaping over the huge gaps in the road.. it’s just.. satisfying.

Random the third: Speaking of satisfying.. The Fel Armor redesign is better than 10% mana (stinking mages) and better than a kick in the teeth.. but it does badly damage my ability to be at full health/mana after the run through the dungeon back to the boss we’re currently working on.
Currently I do the following:
– Die horrible screaming death at boss.**
– Confirm I have at least one Shard left or do Soul harvest for 3 seconds to get 1 shard back.
– Start running for the boss.
– Put up Fel Armor
– Instant cast Succubus
– Soul Link with Succubus
– Tap until I’m at 90-95% mana
– Usually by the time I’m back at the boss I’m healed back up to full..
– Eat buff food, channel full soul harvest to get 3 shards, put Dark Intent up

After the patch I’ll have to do the following:
– Die horrible screaming death at boss.

So, ok. Not really much change out of combat. In combat, supposedly if you’re “low dps” it will be a nerf and it’s a HUGE nerf to regen in PVP.. but at least it’s not just a change to give us 10% more mana(stinking mages).

Also.. Since normally I’m at full health when I get back to the boss it came as a surprise to me that Soul Harvest regen’s health. Since I’m normally at full at that point I hadn’t noticed. Three seconds for 15% health. Not too shabby. Too bad it’s out of combat only.

Random the forth: My pally is now level 83. I know I said I wouldn’t level her.. and even if I did level her I wouldn’t play her in heroics or raids.. but .. well.. sheesh. I miss healing and I want to figure out if it’s really as hard as everyone says it is. She’s currently leveling Ret with my fiancé’s Prot pally. I hate melee dps. Fiery hot hate of hate-y-ness.

Random the fifth: Heroic runs that fail to complete.. and cost more than face-smashing on a raid boss all night make me sad. (especially when said heroic happens AFTER a night of face-smashing on a new raid boss)

In Throne of Tides, on the head sucker boss… when he’s head-suckered onto another of your party members, don’t use dots. When the head sucker lets go the dots will be left on your party member and you stress the healer out needlessly. ALSO after the first phase that boss will occasionally cast “Absorb Magic”. Spell casts on the boss during “Absorb Magic” will heal him for three times the damage of the spell. So treat it like a spell reflect and stop casting when he has that up or you’ll DoT him right back to health.

Normally that boss dies so quickly I hadn’t really noticed the mechanics.. but last night we experienced a lot of fail so I researched the boss. We still didn’t finish the heroic.. but now I know more for future runs.

Random the sixth: The Fox Kit is very cute.. and I’m very glad I no longer have to kill the Baradin Foxes.

**About a week ago we were doing a Heroic Deadmines on the Master blaster boss with the goblin riding on the ogre, it all went sideways and the tank died. For some reason I was kind of amused and I announced in vent I was going to go “beat my tiny fists against the door”. Imagine my surprise when the door popped open and I was able to leave the boss fight.. resetting it without actually dying.

  • My guild recently got the BoA cloak as well. I’m doing something similar to you and leveling the Good, Neutral, Evil trinity of casters. Triplet sisters Priest, Mage, Warlock(my second, the first is on my old server). They have to share the BoA shoulders, chest, cloak and trinket so, yeah normally they’re basically in their undies. My original plan was to level them using just rested XP, but the rate at which we burn through that, especially at lower levels killed that idea.

So now I basically level each as I get tired/frustrated at certain things. Priest is at 72, Warlock at 45, and Mage at… 12. Damn lazy mage.

Bonus points: They’re named Solinari, Lunitari and Nuitari. Significance?

I’m finding that between completing my dailies/daily heroic on my 85 Warlock and leveling lowbies I’ve been able to keep to leveling the lowbies while I have rested XP.

Significance.. um.. sun, moon and night? idaknow.

Close, good guess. It’s from the Dragonlance series of books. They’re the three gods and moons who govern the power of the three schools of magic. (Solinari) White robed wizards of good, (Lunitari) Red robed wizards of neutrality, and (Nuitari) Black Robed wizards of evil. So I extended the metaphor a bit to be Priest, Mage and Warlock. One of the famous anti-heroes actually starts out as a red mage and gets corrupted and becomes a black robe.

If your interested check out the first trilogy War of the Lance, sarting with Dragons of Autumn Twillight. Part of what drew me to WoW were the similarities between the two universes.

  • With BOAs, personally I found leveling a healer (disc priest) alt and the random dungeon finder both quick and mostly satisfying. Everyone once in awhile you get a persnickety group and just want to drop, but typically I ding usually every other dungeon. Top it off, she’s got a healer queue (instant to 5 minutes) vs the DPS queue of 30 minutes.

On the other hand, keeping up on her professions is PAINFUL. I swapped from tailoring to Enchanting so that I could at least always have that DE button. Now I just enchant the same item several times to level…

  • If you really hate melee DPS, switch to the shockadin build. I know it reeks of old, but it actually works really well – I went from 80-85 with it. The only ‘issue’ I had was the mobs health during that 84-85 push. It just takes a few extra casts. Spec something like this http://www.wowhead.com/talent#scIrdrduhbbZf0M. You can shuffle a few points around to get ToR for those extra HPs when you flash heal yourself. Use your HPs for Inquisition, and just nuke away. It’s not warlock DPS, but it’s better than it used to be. Plus you can still heal a normal run like this without any real issue.
