I use Grid. I’m what you might call a Grid Zealot. I think it’s the greatest addon EVER for healing (or even for non healers to keep their screens decluttered in 10-25 man raids). Unfortunately not everyone is a convert.
It’s come to my attention that alot of other healers use healbot. That’s fine. It’s their UI they can do whatever they want (heathens).. but this also leads to a little bit of a problem. You see Grid and HealBot don’t really talk to each other. Or rather.. Healbot doesn’t really talk to Grid.
Here’s what my raid frames (Grid) tells me at a glance (image is about 2x nomal size. click to see the full screenshot):
That which grid does by default:
- The boxes are colored by class. So at a glance I know there are 3 hunters.. and I wonder why there’s only two hunter pets up. (Kupl is Lilac the warlock’s phase shifted imp)(all the other warlocks are succy-sac warlocks.. so no pet for them) (If the 3rd hunter pet was dead it should show as dead at the bottom.)
- The first row is group 1, the second row is group 2, etc. It’s easy to say Lilac is in group 3 (Lila in Column1, row 3). Omar is in group 4. You -can- group the hunter pets with the groups in grid.. but I don’t like the way that display looks.
This is another addon that I think should be built into the default UI. It’s not quite Tier 1 (I can’t live without it) but it definitely falls into Tier 2 (Life is way easier with this).
Mendeleev (named for the inventor of the periodic table)(which is interesting.. but makes the name hard to remember as I don’t see how it’s relevant to the function of the Addon)(but anyway) updates the tooltips of items with helpful information. It will tell you what recipes use that item, who drops an item (and at what percent) and other helpful information.
A week or so ago WowInsider did an article about a rogue tanking Mother Shiraz. I watched the video and I spent more time wondering about his HUD than actually watching him tank. It turns out it wasn’t really a HUD (ie, didn’t include health/energy bars) instead it was the addon Power Auras.
West Kingdom is a casual raiding guild. My interpretation of that is we don’t have required raid attendance. Every raid has a good 20 mins before hand of “Who is on? Which toons do we have access too? Can we do it with these toons?” We have a set raid time.. but there’s no good way for people to sign up for a raid.
Does anyone have a fantastic tool for this? I’m looking for either inside or outside of WoW.
Currently we’re using the calendar tool on Guild Cafe. This has allowed us to setup raid times.. but the sign-up is clunky and pretty much everyone signed up recurring.. but on the days when they can’t make it they don’t drop from the raid.. so we end up with 14 people signed up.. but only 7 show up.

Adds the ability to control multiple toons (two-boxing) via voice commands. I bet you could also use it to control a single toon. Interesting implications.

I generated this macro for showing raid icons of my focus: /cast [target=focus] Polymorph
/run local x = GetRaidTargetIndex(”focus”) or “0″ if x==”0″ then SendChatMessage (’Sheeping ‘..UnitName(”focus”),’SAY’) else SendChatMessage(’Sheeping ‘..UnitName(”focus”)..’ {rt’..x..’}.’,'SAY’) end
The problem is that it’s REALLY long and with only 255 characters, this is cramped in a macro. Especially if you have any focus setting/reseting in the macro.
MacroTalk is the answer. This addon allows me to simplify the above to this:
/cast [target=focus] Polymorph
/say Sheeping %f {%ficb}
I have to say I’m loving the bulk mailing that was added with patch 2.3. Not so much the bulk part of it (I had that by using CTmail) but the part where it bundles the items up into a single package… AND you can label the package.
