HEAL ME!

Posted in Guild at 10:53 am by Nibuca

I think West Kingdom is facing a healing shortage. I’m not panicked about it.. I’m sure we’ll get through it.. but I’m concerned. Times are tough all over.

Our main Holy Priest pulled her main out of the guild to go raid with more hardcore guild.
Our only Resto Shaman has instead leveled a Warrior tank.
One of our priest is leveling a Boomkin. I don’t know if she plans to stay boomkin.
Another Holy Priest is leveling her warlock (which could partially be my fault).
On of our Resto Druids finally took this opportunity to go back to playing his Mage main.
Another Resto Druid is leveling a Death Knight.

A long while back I changed my Warlock to be my main and stopped focusing on my Holy Paladin. The Paladin is still there but I’m still feeling kind of kicked in the kidneys when I play her.. so she’s still stuck at 70.

Thank god for Persephany (Holy priest) and Leadpally(Holy Paladin). If it wasn’t for them we’d be totally healerless.

Asshattery, Beaurocracy and Cheesedickery: The ABCs of Guilds

Posted in Guild at 11:03 am by Nibuca

ABCsWe started off simply. In the beginning the only guild rule was “No Drama”. It was simple. Anything that happened in the guild.. you could look at it and say “does this cause drama?” If the answer was yes.. the don’t do it.

Then we grew. We got more people into the guild. We decided that we should lay down some guidelines.. rules to follow. Thus the guild became more complex. Now we had rules.. if something happened that wasn’t covered by the rules.. or if something happened that someone didn’t like, then we had to re-examine the rules and modify them to be most fair. We had whiners.. tattle-tailers and rule mongers. People followed the letter of the rules but not the spirit. Everything that was said was carved out of context and take as some kind of censure or criticism. More time was spent smoothing ruffled feathers and explaining what was actually meant then saying what we mean. The game and “fun” became secondary to enforcing rules of “fairness”.

This all came to a head. The guild leadership has declared “Enough!”

We play a game. It’s supposed to be fun. It’s not supposed to be work. I’m tired of dreading playing the game because of the angst and drama that I’m going to cause or help dispell. We’ve declared that we’re going back to having fun.

In the short term this will cause drama. In the long term I’m not sure how scalable this is… but what we’re doing before now wasn’t working. So we change. We’ll see what comes of it.

Drama Llama is hungry

Posted in Guild at 12:46 pm by Nibuca

Drama LlamaThe drama llama still has no power over me.. but unrelated to the previous potential source of drama (Holierthanthou not getting loot) a new and special form of drama reared it head.. and then was .. headded-off.

Three members were unhappy and left the guild. We (the guild and Grand Council) had -no- idea they were unhappy until they left. We (mostly the guild master) continued to talk with them after they left.. and the very next day they rejoined the guild. We (the guild and the Grand Council) are now aware of some issues we weren’t aware of and we’re trying to make changes to prevent this from happening again.

Losing good players from your guild for asinine reasons is .. Asinine.

Evolution of a loot system

Posted in Guild at 11:11 am by Nibuca

Pot of GoldLet’s just start out by saying there is no “one-true loot system”. All loot systems are flawed to some extent. I’m using this post to map out the evolution of our loot system.. not to suggest that everyone should use it.

The Constraint

We started.. and try to remain dedicated to the ideals of chivalry and honor.
We will -never- use DKP of any form. The GM is opposed to it.
In all cases we want to be fair and distibute loot as evenly as possible.
We would rather give loot to -someone- who will use it than shard the loot.

Everytime we try to address a failing in the loot system.. our rules become more complex.
We really -want- a simple loot system. Unfortunately “simple” doesn’t feel as “fair.”

Your drama has no power over me

Posted in Guild at 12:21 pm by Nibuca

Drama Llama

Last night we .. didn’t have drama. We had the potential for drama.. but it just kind of .. didn’t become drama.

How it happened: Two months ago a holy paladin, who we’ll call “Holierthanthou,” was recruited into the guild. He played with us for 2-3 weeks.. but then disappeared for about 1.5 months. Last week he showed up again.

Two days ago we had an all-guild meeting to discuss the loot rules. The current rules boil down to one-purple per raid night with priority given to Mains over Alts. I actually don’t know if “Holierthanthou” was present at the meeting.. but he was invited and encouraged to attend. The guild was told that after the meeting the guild’s decision would be binding. After a long discussion and a vote the guild decided to leave the rules as they are.

Yesterday we went into TK. We downed Al’ar and the big flamey bird dropped a melee leather piece. We called for rolls from Mains.. then from Alts.. then offered it up for off-spec. “Holierthanthou” rolled on it and picked it up for his “retribution” set. The next piece of loot was a healing ring. “Holierthanthou” rolled on that too and was reminded that he was only allowed one purple a night. The ring then went to one of the Protection pallies as part of his healing set.

Choke Points

Posted in Guild at 8:47 am by Nibuca

ArtichokeSo.. well ok, we’re recruiting. Unfortunately we’re not the only ones. And our recruitment message isn’t all that compelling. I mean we’re not 4/5 BT with promises of grand purplez to bring in the bodies.

We are far far far behind the ball. We’re 4/6 in ZA. Have a guild bank.. forums, ventrilo and tabards. Ugh.

We’re home sellers advertising our “cozy cottage.”

This CLOSE *pinching fingers together*

Posted in Guild at 2:06 pm by Nibuca

MagtheridonMy honey loves me..and does stuff for me :) He graciously volunteered to tank both Heroic Shattered Halls and Heroic Shadow Labs on Friday so that Lilac could be prepared for the Magtheridon attempt scheduled for Saturday. We finished both Heroics easily (many additional thanks to Ireena, Krullwyn, and Fearthewild).

Don’t eat the crayons

Posted in Guild at 9:10 am by Nibuca

CrayonsLast night we made a few attempts at Lurker. It was our first time as a guild attempting the boss. The trash went very very well.. in fact someone commented that the SSC trash is easier than the TK trash. The boss.. not so much. We had some positioning problems with the tank. I’m sure we’ll get it worked out shortly.

We had a new recruit with us on the run. Just before the second attempt on the boss he and I exchanged the following whispers:

Me: Heya, just checking that everything’s going ok.
Recruit: Yeah, everything’s ok.. It’s just that this is so much more than I was doing before. I’m just worried that I won’t perform well. I really want to make the grade.
Me: There aren’t grades so much. It’s more like kindergarten. We want to know “does he play well with other”, “does he share his toys”,”does he do what he’s told to do when he’s told to do it”.
Me: It’s more about “doesn’t eat the crayons” than “colors within the lines”
Recruit: Ah, ok. So share my toys, play well with others and don’t eat the crayons. Got it.
Me: Exactly.
