Razer Nostromo Gaming Keyboard

Razer Nostromo Gaming Keyboard

The good part about taking a nice long break is that when I come back I can look at my UI/setup with fresh eyes. I don’t remember where the buttons are.. or what they do.. and frankly half the buttons either no longer exist or no longer do the same thing.. so it’s a good chance to change it all up and re-do things entirely from the ground up. I’m currently working through my Nostromo and how it’s setup and rethinking a few things.

As I’ve mentioned before (long long ago and I’m sure you’ve all forgotten) I play with a Nostromo N52TE (I started with the N52 but it broke.. then I got a Belkin N52TE.. but it had a sticky button.. so recently I got the Razer N52TE… it’s just like the Belkin N52TE only without the sticky button)(Incidentally, I found the Belkin N52TE mapping software to be a lot easier to use than the Razer N52TE software). It’s an external accessory, kind of like an extra mini ergonomic keyboard that sits to the left of my actual keyboard. I’m right-handed. I play with my right hand on my mouse, left hand on the Nostromo and, when needed, I move both hands to my keyboard (opening various panels (bags, pets, professions), chatting, making macros, etc). I suppose I -could- play without it.. I’m sure there are plenty of people who manage just fine without it.. but -I- like it. I especially like the fact that it’s ergonomic (ie not going to trigger my RSI) and that I can reach 17-ish buttons without moving my hands.. and that I can easily map these to 40+ different actions in the game. All that without moving my hands off of the home keys on the Nostromo.

There ought to be an easier macro…

So mounts changed. I noticed that even my “slow” land mounts are suddenly able to get as fast as my fastest land mount.. AND since I’d finished the “Long Strange Trip” all my flying mounts are at 310%.

This gives us an interesting opportunity. I finally get to run around on whatever mount I want [...]

Addon:Teksloot

Teksloot is another Tekkhub addon. It slims down the loot window and adds information about who rolled what.

In the example, 4 people rolled disenchant. Mousing over the option shows you who [...]

Outfitter + Pawn

We had too many ranged DPS sign up for ICC this week. I volunteered to sit out. I’ve gone on most of the guild runs and it’s only fair. The group did great even without me. They burned through all of the lower spire, festergut and rotface in a little less than 2 hours. Then they got really good attempts in on the Blood Princes. I’m very proud.

While my guild was running ICC I ran off and did VoA. I picked up the Sanctified Dark Coven Gloves from VoA-25 and the Furious Gladiator’s Pendant of Dominance from VoA-10. This meant I had to fiddle around both my “Boss 14%” clothes and my “High Stamina” set. When I get new gear I fiddle my gear around to get the highest pawn score and yet still keep at my hit cap. This “fiddling” can take upwards of 2-3 hours depending on whether I’m doing a quick gear swap.. or if I’m doing a full gear audit to make sure I have the best gear set for each of my sets (14% hit, 17% hit, High Stamina, etc). This is kind of a PITA and not terribly interesting.. just kind of manual. While I was working on these sets I found myself thinking “Gosh, it’s too bad that Outfitter can’t just read my Pawn settings to make these gear sets automatically”. Amazingly enough somebody already thought of that. Hidden deep in the menus of Outfitter is the option to have outfitter rebuild your gearset based on a Pawn scale.**

Stoned

Psynister asked about cooldowns on Soulstones on twitter.

Once upon a time I used Necrosis. Then it became a huge resource suck and I had to find another way to manage all the fiddly warlock things. I finally settled on using a lot of macros. I use ALOT of macros.. and they’re constantly changing as I improve them.. or change how I want to use them.

Here’s the stone macros I’m using currently.

Addon:Ventrilo

Technically Ventrilo isn’t an addon. It’s an external program you can use in conjunction with World of Warcraft.

From Wikipedia – Ventrilo:
Ventrilo is a proprietary VoIP program which allows users to talk to each other, similar to a telephone conference call, but the conference call is made via VoIP. A microphone and speakers, or a headset, must be connected to each person’s computer to use the program.

For the most part you setup your Ventrilo client software, connect to a Ventrilo server and it just works. In some cases you’ll need to fiddle some of your settings so that you sound the best and have the least amount of feedback. I’m not an expert on this and really I’ve just sat in vent fiddling dials and then demaning “How’s it now?” until it got to the point where it sounded good.

That said, there are a few special (non-obvious) things you can setup.

Addon: PallyPower

From the Curse page: “Pally Power is an add-on that provides an interactive and easy to use interface that allows you to control assignments of blessings for yourself and, if you are a party leader or an assistant, for other paladins in your group or raid. You don’t need to be a paladin to control raid/party blessings.”

“Easy to use” is short hand for “if you know what you’re doing, it’s trivial to manage but most people don’t know what they’re doing and they will frustrate you and make you want to throw kittens across the room.”
