While my guild was running ICC I ran off and did VoA. I picked up the Sanctified Dark Coven Gloves from VoA-25 and the Furious Gladiator’s Pendant of Dominance from VoA-10. This meant I had to fiddle around both my “Boss 14%” clothes and my “High Stamina” set. When I get new gear I fiddle my gear around to get the highest pawn score and yet still keep at my hit cap. This “fiddling” can take upwards of 2-3 hours depending on whether I’m doing a quick gear swap.. or if I’m doing a full gear audit to make sure I have the best gear set for each of my sets (14% hit, 17% hit, High Stamina, etc). This is kind of a PITA and not terribly interesting.. just kind of manual. While I was working on these sets I found myself thinking “Gosh, it’s too bad that Outfitter can’t just read my Pawn settings to make these gear sets automatically”. Amazingly enough somebody already thought of that. Hidden deep in the menus of Outfitter is the option to have outfitter rebuild your gearset based on a Pawn scale.** This post was published long before the Mists of Pandara Expansion. Technically Ventrilo isn’t an addon. It’s an external program you can use in conjunction with World of Warcraft.
For the most part you setup your Ventrilo client software, connect to a Ventrilo server and it just works. In some cases you’ll need to fiddle some of your settings so that you sound the best and have the least amount of feedback. I’m not an expert on this and really I’ve just sat in vent fiddling dials and then demaning “How’s it now?” until it got to the point where it sounded good. That said, there are a few special (non-obvious) things you can setup. This post was published long before the Mists of Pandara Expansion.
“Easy to use” is short hand for “if you know what you’re doing, it’s trivial to manage but most people don’t know what they’re doing and they will frustrate you and make you want to throw kittens across the room.” This post was published long before the Mists of Pandara Expansion. DrainSoulTimer is a fairly simple addon. It can make a sound when your target enters “execute” range (below 25%) and fire a sound when a Drain Soul ticks. At the time of this writing the most updated version is found in WowInterface and is compatible with patch 3.3. The addon’s setup screen allows you to [...] This post was published long before the Mists of Pandara Expansion.
Back in the “old days” downranking spells allowed you to cast spells for the same benefit but at a lower mana cost. Blizzard changed this so that in most cases casting lower ranked spells costs more mana for less benefit. Now there are actually very few spells that should be legitimately downranked. Add to that, with the dual spec options, if you are in your primary spec and you learn an upgraded spell for your secondary spec, the spells on your toolbar for the secondary spec will not automatically update. So it’s easy to accidentally end up casting the wrong version of the spells and doing lower heals/dps/tanking. This post was published long before the Mists of Pandara Expansion. Elitist Group is an addon that reviews your pug members and give you a couple of different standards to judge your group mates. It also allows you to make notes about each group member after a run. I’m not sure if it does the same thing for 10-/25-man raids. Here’s a screenshot from a recent pug. As I joined the instance this flashed up on the screen: This post was published long before the Mists of Pandara Expansion.
In the picture I have moused-over the Glassfin Minnow School on the map, and Overachiever has added the note that I need to fish in that pool for some achievement. Opening up the Achievement UI (Y) shows that Overachiever has added two tabs, “Suggestion” and “Watch”. This post was published long before the Mists of Pandara Expansion. Simple addon today.. don’t even have a screenshot.. but that’s because this one works silently without any fancy UIs. FriendsWithBenefits (written by Tekkub) automatically keeps your friend list in sync across alts and adds alts to your friend list for easy mailing. That’s it. I want to be able to inspect someone and see: |
