Addon: DrainSoulTimer

DrainSoulTimer is a fairly simple addon. It can make a sound when your target enters “execute” range (below 25%) and fire a sound when a Drain Soul ticks. At the time of this writing the most updated version is found in WowInterface and is compatible with patch 3.3.

The addon’s setup screen allows you to [...]

Addon: RankWatch

The Rankwatch addon will notify you if you or a party/raid member are using down-ranked spells. That is when you cast a lower rank spell than the top-most rank available to you.

Back in the “old days” downranking spells allowed you to cast spells for the same benefit but at a lower mana cost. Blizzard changed this so that in most cases casting lower ranked spells costs more mana for less benefit. Now there are actually very few spells that should be legitimately downranked. Add to that, with the dual spec options, if you are in your primary spec and you learn an upgraded spell for your secondary spec, the spells on your toolbar for the secondary spec will not automatically update. So it’s easy to accidentally end up casting the wrong version of the spells and doing lower heals/dps/tanking.

Addon: Elitist Group

Elitist Group is an addon that reviews your pug members and give you a couple of different standards to judge your group mates. It also allows you to make notes about each group member after a run. I’m not sure if it does the same thing for 10-/25-man raids.

Here’s a screenshot from a recent pug. As I joined the instance this flashed up on the screen:

This is a pug headed into Halls of Stone.

Addon:Overachiever

Overachiever is an addon that tries to help you complete achievements. It does this by adding helpful notes to tooltips and by adding a couple of tabs to your achievements window.

In the picture I have moused-over the Glassfin Minnow School on the map, and Overachiever has added the note that I need to fish in that pool for some achievement.

Opening up the Achievement UI (Y) shows that Overachiever has added two tabs, “Suggestion” and “Watch”.

Addon: FriendsWithBenefits

Simple addon today.. don’t even have a screenshot.. but that’s because this one works silently without any fancy UIs.

FriendsWithBenefits (written by Tekkub) automatically keeps your friend list in sync across alts and adds alts to your friend list for easy mailing.

That’s it. [...]

WTB Inspector Addon

I’m looking for an addon. I’ve tried a few but I’m looking for input from you.

I want to be able to inspect someone and see:
– their spec numbers (without having to actually view their whole tree)
– whether they’re at defense cap for tanking
– whether they’re at hit cap (gear and talents please)for raiding and/or for heroics
– See their crit percent
– See their haste percent
– see their parry percent
– see their dodge percent
– seeing their average iLvl would be nice but not totally necessary..
– see what gems they have (how many by quality of gem) and how many gem slots are empty
– see what enchants they have and how many items are unenchanted.

Addon: Multishot (Screenshot)

No, this isn’t a hunter addon.. though I suppose hunters could use it .

Multishot is a tiny little addon that automatically takes screenshots for you when certain events happen. You can open the config by hitting ESC and choosing Interface, then the Addon tab. As you can see by my [...]

Addon: Recount

recountdpsRecount is a DPS meter. I’m sure there are others around.. but Recount seems to be the #1 choice.

When you install recount it will begin watching as you fight and record how much healing/damage/cleansing you/your party/your raid does.

By default on my Warlock when I’m out of combat (I hide recount when I’m in combat) I normally display the damage done screen. This screenshot is showing the total damage done (and average DPS) of our Ulduar-10 group. In this case I’m showing all the damage up to this point (including trash). Oh.. darn, look at that.. I choose a screenshot that has me on top.. I wonder why :P Note that the highest DPSer doesn’t always have the most damage done (the druid did more DPS than the rogue in the #3 spot.. but did less damage overall).

Addon: CLSaver

CLSaver (short for Combat Log Saver) toggles your /combatlog on/off as you enter/leave raid instances. You could totally do it manually.. but if you’re like me.. you’d forget. CLSaver does it automatically.

/combatlog save all of the entries in your Combat Log into a file in your WoW Logs directory. This file can be uploaded to online WoW parsers (WWS, World Of Logs) or manually parsed (yuck) to find out information about the combat.

Example WWS report: http://wowwebstats.com/llv3lh6katatm
Example WoL report of the same fight: http://worldoflogs.com/reports/lsev94zve8eg3hn8/

In addition to CLSaver I recommend you also read through Stoppable Force’s excellent article about setting up your combat logs to be automatically archived.

Addon: LinkWrangler

Sometimes you just need to look at more tooltips than the default UI shows. LinkWrangler allows you to open multiple linked items all at the same time.

When I’m cycling through my gear trying to figure out which two rings are best (out of the six I have) I’ll whisper the links to myself and then [...]
